As someone who is more towards "hardcore" fan, the "they only cater to the non true fans hurrdurr" is such a lame reasoning. But, there is a real possibility that they manage to make something that neither the "true hardcore fans" nor the "fake fans" like, and would've been better if they would've sticked closely to the original, because some production head was confident that it would be more popular if they change it according to its own vision
