Warning: Spoilers for Power Rangers Prime #5!Finally, a new generation of Power Rangers has been assembled. When Power Rangers Prime first premiered on shelves in late 2024, the story executed a slow burn into the team's gaining their powers. The first to get their powers was Lauren Shiba, the Red Ranger, and that wasn't until the third issue.
Now, as of Power Rangers Prime #4, the Rangers team is complete. When Shiba struggles to new leader and creator Rita Repulsa offers the remaining teenagers four power gems she turns into Power Coins. Within an instance, Lauren's Red Ranger is ed by Prime Black Ranger Jun, Prime Blue Ranger Mark, Prime Yellow Ranger Valentina, and Prime Pink Ranger Orion.
Together, they are the Power Rangers. Now that the gang's all here, it's worth analyzing how they stack up with past iterations, and what their potential is.

While readers will need to wait until the fifth issue to see this new formation of Power Rangers in action, the series has thus far given audiences a good understanding of their personalities and what each member brings to the team. For example, Markon "Mark" Zhao displays immense bravery in his introduction, long before gaining the powers of the Prime Blue Ranger. When he stumbles upon a wounded Lauren in a trash can in the first issue, Mark could've turned her in to the authorities when he was questioned, but instead protects the fugitive, standing his ground.
He displays a bravery that's shared across this Power Rangers team. Not only bravery, but there's camaraderie among this team. Each member - except Valentina, who shows the most apprehension of them all - takes kindly to the thought of illegally harboring a fugitive and a Power Ranger. They are understandably hesitant, but for the most part, they all agree that, given Lauren's circumstances, it's the right thing to do. That's the most important quality of a Power Ranger, and a hero in general: doing something because it feels like the morally right, heroic thing to do.

Power Rangers Just Launched the Reboot Fans Have Been Dreaming About, and Here's Why
The newest Power Rangers series has debuted a complicated new enemy to face off against its cast of colorful new and rebellious young Rangers.
Meanwhile, Prime Black and Yellow Power Rangers Jun and Valentina have been shown to be skilled martial artists in the first issue, trained by the Eltarian Youth Corps. This means that not all the will need such extensive combat training when they know how to fight to some degree already. Plus, it's worth noting that Jun's mother being iral Janessa could come in handy in their adventures, and it already has in getting them access to the museum where the Rangers received their powers. These Rangers are skilled, and check off the essential boxes for teamwork.
How Do They Compare to Past Generations of Power Rangers?
These Power Rangers Check Off The Essential Boxes of the Ideal Team, With Some Contrasts
Lauren Shiba's dynamic with the rest of the Power Rangers as the only member of the team with experience of being a Ranger (she was previously with Samurai) echoes something similar to the dynamic of Power Rangers in Space. The big difference being that while that season's Red Ranger, Andros, was the first to get his team-specific powers, the rest of his team still had Ranger experience from their days in the prior Turbo season. Like with any other team, they're teenagers with attitude, but there's an emphasis on "teenagers," journeying to learn what it means to be a Ranger.
Andros also has a ing role in the previous iteration of BOOM! Studios' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers franchise, most notably in teaming with the Omega Rangers. All issues are available now.
The junior Power Rangers have a long way to go to reach the level of hero that Lauren already is, so she has her work cut out for herself. Nonetheless, the series does still feature the essential qualities first established in Mighty Morphin. All the classic colors are on display, including Pink, which looks ittedly purple on-, but Melissa Flores confirms it is pink. Finally, as has been the case since the Zordon Era, a wise, sage mentor coaches the team. Granted, that mentor is Rita Repulsa, whose allegiances and use of dark magic are questionable.
What is the Potential of the Power Rangers Prime?
Rita Repulsa and the Yellow Ranger's Villain Potential Casts Doubts on the Future of the Power Rangers
Long-time fans of Power Rangers will be understandably uneasy knowing that Rita Repulsa is their creator, especially when she was introduced in an antagonistic role and only forms an alliance with the Rangers to combat a common enemy. However, this version of Rita Repulsa was connected to the Morphin Grid at birth, and being forged with that level of purity could put her on a long-overdue path to redemption. By proxy, this means Rita created the Power Rangers' Coins using both magic and energy from the Morphin Grid, potentially making them among the most powerful Power Rangers.
Unfortunately, as the saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely. In a conversation from the third issue, Valentina hints at wanting the powers of a Ranger strictly for the power, which disgusts Lauren who has nobler intentions in mind. The tension between the Red and Yellow Rangers could risk splitting the Rangers team, but worse, hints at Valentina's possible betrayal. After all, her boyfriend is a VR Trooper, so she has a conflict of interest. The Power Rangers franchise has no shortage of evil Rangers, but when Valentina has potential to go evil, it risks the potential of the overall team.
