The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon GO in the future. It took several years for Pokémon GO to become compatible with Pokémon Home, allowing people to transfer their Pokémon from the mobile game into the mainline games. This is a one-way trip, which means any Pokémon transferred to Pokémon Home will be unable to return to Pokémon GO.

Pokémon Home's connectivity with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has been confirmed for 2023 and Pokémon GO will follow suit. The official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website has revealed that there will be connectivity between Pokémon GO and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in 2023. This means that it won't be available when Pokémon Scarlet and Violet launch on November 18, 2022, and it could arrive as late as the end of next year.

Pokémon GO Will Connect With Pokémon SV Next Year

Gimmighoul in Pokémon GO, a small Pokémon dragging a gold coin behind it.

The ability to connect Pokémon GO to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet might seem redundant, considering that Pokémon Home can easily act as the gateway between the two, and will continue to be a resource used for future Pokémon games. There is one major reason why the gams will connect, and it involves a brand-new Pokémon. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet feature Gimmighoul, a new Ghost-type Pokémon that resembles a spirit residing in a treasure chest, which has connections to Pokémon GO.

Gimmighoul actually has two forms that players can catch. The people playing Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be able to encounter Gimmighoul's Chest Form, while people playing Pokémon GO can encounter Gimmighoul's Roaming Form, where it's only carrying around a single gold coin. The Chest Form Gimmighoul has the Rattled Ability, but it's unclear what Roaming Form Gimmighoul's Ability is. In order to encounter Roaming Form Gimmighoul in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, a player needs to catch a Gimmighoul in Pokémon GO. Once the games are linked, the Roaming Form Gimmighoul will appear in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

The fact that modern Pokémon games don't have access to Pokémon Home at launch is frustrating, but it serves a purpose. If players had access to Pokémon Home from day one, then they could just bring in their favorites that they have prepared from the other games, rather than engaging with all the new Pokémon on offer. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet fans will have to wait for Pokémon GO connectivity, but they're only missing out on one form for a single Pokémon that's already in the game.
