Summary
- There is only one Pokémon without any weaknesses due to its unique type and ability combination.
- A Pokémon's type determines damage taken from certain moves, with dual-types possibly being vulnerable to quadruple damage.
- The Pokémon's advantage can be countered with strategic gameplay by exploiting its own Ability.
There is one Pokémon line in the series that lacks any kind of weaknesses, thanks to its unique ability and type combination. The type system in the games is a major component of combat and entire teams are built with type composition in mind, as players want to ensure that they deal and resist as much damage as possible. The Pokémon weakness and resistance system, coupled with the ability to create a team with a mixture of dual-types, means that there is a lot of depth to the competitive battling scene, even before factoring in things like abilities and moves.
A Pokémon's type determines the amount of damage it takes from certain move types. Pokémon can be weak to a type (takes double damage), resistant to damage (takes half damage), or immune to a type (takes no damage). A Pokémon with multiple types can potentially take quadruple damage, such as the Rock/Ground-type Onix when hit by a Grass-type or Water-type move. It took a while for the type system to be balanced, as people who suffered through the reign of overpowered Psychic-type Pokémon in Red & Blue can attest, and it's something that is still occasionally tweaked by Game Freak.

Pokémon's Darkest Moment Proved the Entire Series' Premise Wrong
A rather bizarre moment early in the Hoenn era of the anime undermined the core premise of the series: that one needs a Pokémon to fight Pokémon.
Pokémon's Mighty Floating Electric-Type Eelektross Is (Almost) Invincible
The Gen 5 Pokémon Negates Ground-Type Damage With Levitate
The Eelektross line (Tynamo, Eelektrik, and Eelektross) all lack any weaknesses. The reason for this is that they are pure Electric-type Pokémon that can only possess the Levitate ability. Levitate makes the immune to Ground-type moves, which is the primary opponent to Electric-type s. Ground-type Pokémon are completely immune to Electric-type moves, which is why the writers of the Pokémon anime had to jump through hoops to let Pikachu beat Brock's Onix. Electric-type Pokémon are normally weak to Ground-type moves, but Eelektross and its previous Pokémon forms are the exceptions.
Best Ways To Counter Eelektross In Pokémon Games
There Are Certain Gameplay Strategies To Give It Weaknesses
Despite Eelektross’ lack of a weakness in Pokémon games, the creature and its previous forms are far from invincible. The first point of order is that none of them are particularly strong when it comes to defensive stats, so players do not necessarily need to exploit weaknesses to one-shot the Electric-type Pokémon. When it comes to strategy, Eelektross only really has three resistances (Flying-, Steel-, and Electric-types) making moves of all other types normally deal damage. In addition to this, there are a few strategies that players can employ to give Eelektross a Ground-type weakness in Pokémon titles.
The main thing keeping Eelektross protected from super effective moves is its Levitate ability, so negating that can make this Electric-type Pokémon vulnerable to Ground-type moves like most other creatures in the same type category. One way of doing so is by using Pokémon with certain Abilities. Mold Breaker and Neutralizing Gas are great ways of deactivating Eelektross’ Levitate, therefore making it weak against Ground-type moves. While Neutralizing Gas is limited to the Weezing family, which does not have much of an advantage over Eelektross, Mold Breaker offers more options to choose from.
Strong Pokémon like Excadrill, Haxorus, and Tinkaton, all of which can learn powerful Ground-type attacks, can have Mold Breaker. With it, they counter Eelektross’ Levitate and then finish it off with their super effective moves.
In addition to ive abilities that trigger Eelektross’ Ground-type weakness, there is also an active way of removing the character’s Levitate. Even if not too strong, the move Smack Down can ground Eelektross, removing its nullifying the effects of Levitate. With it, Pokémon can then follow up with a Ground-type move and deal super effective damage against the Gen 5 Electric-type Pokémon. Despite the lack of a natural weakness, it is fairly easy to destroy Eelektross, as long as players are prepared to either hit it hard or negate its Levitate in the Pokémon games.

Pokémon Gen 10 Release Predictions: Are New Pokémon Games In 2024?
Even if Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have not yet completed their first anniversary, it is possible to predict exactly when Gen 10 is arriving.
Other Pokémon Without Weaknesses Gained Them With The Introduction Of Fairy-Type
The Gen 6 Games Ended A Long-Lasting Reign
Before the introduction of Eelektross, however, two Pokémon used to be the champions with no weaknesses in the Pokémon universe. The first to be introduced was Sableye in Generation 3 games. The dual Dark- and Ghost-type Pokémon had no weaknesses whatsoever, and this advantage was not granted to it by any special ability, but simply through its typing. By being a Ghost-type, it would become immune to Fighting-type, which its Dark-type would be weak against. With its Dark-type, the Ghost-type damage it would be weak against was also negated, making for an unbreakable barrier.
The second Pokémon to have no weaknesses was then presented in Gen 4. Spiritomb, a dual Ghost- and Dark-type creature, shared the same typing with Sableye and, with it, the same combat advantages. Both Sableye and Spiritomb were the only creatures without any weaknesses until Gen 5, when Eelektross was added to the franchise and its Levitate ability protected it from suffering super-effective damage from a type that it would normally be weak against.

I've Been a Fan of Pokémon's Anime Since the Start, & Horizons is the Best the Series Has Been in Years
Pokémon Horizons is very different from what came before, but these differences have led to a quality series with more character development.
Shortly after, Eelektross became the sole member of this group. In Gen 6 Pokémon games, Fairy-type was added to the list as a means of countering Dragon-type creatures and making better use of both Poison- and Steel-types. With Fairy-type moves being strong against Dark-type Pokémon, the reign of Sableye and Spiritomb came to an end, as they both gained a Fairy-type weakness. Nowadays, even with nine Generations of games and over 1,000 creatures, Eelektross is the only Pokémon without a weakness in the Pokémon series.
