The quirky new researcher of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Professor Laventon, could hold many secrets about the historic new region, as it doesn't appear he is natively from Hisui. Professor Laventon, like the Pokémon Professors from previous games in the series, is dedicated to researching the intricacies of each Pokémon species. With his easy-going personality and bumbling clumsiness, he is an endearing expansion on the many Pokédex creators of past Pokémon stories. However, his place in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is unique compared to other Pokémon Professors.

The journey players embark on in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is different than previous titles in the series. Instead of taking a mechanical Pokédex around a world of already-discovered Pokémon, players are building the knowledge base for the first time inside a field journal. Instead of simply seeing or catching a Pokémon to the data, several of the same species must be caught and raised in order to completely fill an entry. This new type of exploration requires players to spend more time observing the Pokémon they catch, as well as putting more importance on the knowledge being gathered.

However, it appears Professor Laventon, who is in charge of the Pokédex expedition, has already spent time studying Pokémon in other regions. This is backed by the starter Pokémon he lets the player choose between at the start of Legends: Arceus - Rowlet is native to Alola, Cyndaquil comes from Johto, and Oshawott originates from Unova. In order to collect and possess these starters, it is likely Laventon had traveled to numerous regions before arriving in Hisui to aid the Galaxy Team with their goals. However, it doesn't seem likely the professor originates from any of these regions.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Professor Laventon Could Be From Galar

While Professor Laventon's outfit and speaking mannerisms may be out of place in Hisui, those who have played Sword and Shield may place the British common in the Galar region. Sword and Shield's culture and location were inspired by the United Kingdom, with the narrative actually dating back far enough to overlap with the events of the Hisui region. It is entirely possible Galar is Laventon's home region, with his research of the Pokédex driving him to travel all around the world for data. Additionally, a character from the Galar region in Pokémon Legends: Arceus could foreshadow potential DLC and updates possible for the game in the future.

While nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo regarding a DLC expansion for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the success of DLC in Pokémon Sword and Shield makes additional content a real possibility. DLC could add new areas to Hisui's map, or introduce different Pokémon species not already confirmed for the Hisui region Pokédex. Both of these were a big part of the Sword and Shield DLC, adding to the end-game content and continued playability of the games. It is possible Professor Laventon's origins could create a chance for Galar-form Pokémon to come to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, giving players a new way to see personal favorites from the recent Nintendo Switch titles.
