- It is highly likely that fans will see a remake of Pokémon Black & White, as remakes usually follow a similar release pattern. However, this is still speculation until an official announcement is made.
There are always rumors and leaks about new Pokémon games, but the most recent ones seem to have a lot of merit behind them when they are broken down and looked at closely. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet just released in November 2022, and has been going strong, Pokémon Legends: Arceus was in January of that year, and Gen 4 remakes were as recent as 2021. This constant stream of titles certainly seems to indicate that players could have another new Pokémon game to look forward to soon and the ongoing leaks seem to have a pretty good idea of what they could be.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will be releasing DLC content later this year, with Part 1, The Teal Mask coming this fall and then Part 2, The Indigo Disk this winter. These DLCs will introduce new Pokémon to the games as well as new areas to explore and expand the story content for players. With these DLCs and Detective Pikachu Returns coming at the end of 2023, it is likely that Trainers won't be seeing any other new games until 2024, but there are already whispers circulating about what new Pokémon game content may be coming.
Recent Leaks Are Suggesting A Return To Pokémon Black & White's Unova
A popular Pokémon leaker, Riddler Khu, gave some clues that are leading many, such as Twitter SoulSilverArt, to decipher as meaning the next set of games for the franchise will take players back to the Unova region. This is the area where Gen 5 games Pokémon Black and White and their sequels Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 took place. Many are taking the riddles posed as meaning specifically that there will be a new game featuring the Unova region rather than simply a remake.
There are many reasons why it could make sense for the next Pokémon game to take place in the Unova region. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet seem to be missing a lot of the Gen 5 Pokémon, even with the added DLC Pokémon that are coming. A new game in this region would be a fun concept and could feature a look at the area in a future setting from what was done before with a larger emphasis on the Iron Variants shown in Pokémon Violet.
Pokémon Gen 5 Remakes Should Be Releasing Soon
Whether or not a new game will be released featuring the Unova region, it is very likely that fans will at least see a remake of Pokémon Black and White soon. In 2021 the remakes of Gen 4 titles Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were released, which makes 2024 a good timeframe for the Gen 5 remakes to launch. These Gen 5 titles would be next in line for being remade and are popular games that many would love to see brought to the Nintendo Switch or beyond.
Whether it is an entirely new game or a remake of Pokémon Black and White, it does seem likely that the Unova region will be the next area that Trainers will get to revisit after the DLC for Scarlet and Violet. Of course, all of these ideas are coming from rumors and speculation, and should not be taken as fact just yet. Until Pokémon gives an official announcement, fans will just have to enjoy the fun of contemplating what could be coming and enjoy the new DLC this fall.
