Disney+'s Percy Jackson and The Olympians brings all the mythical action to life in season 1, and now it has been renewed for season 2. Based on the best-selling series of young adult novels by author Rick Riordan, the TV show follows young Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) as he comes to grips with the revelation that he is a demi-god, and attempts to assimilate into the world of myths and legends. Noted for its close adherence to Riordan's novels, Disney+'s take on the story attempts to rectify many of the problems of the failed film series from the 2010s.

With so much care put into the first season, it comes as no surprise that Percy Jackson and The Olympians has received glowing reviews that speak to the overall quality of the production. While season 1 is still fresh in the minds of fans, speculation has begun about the future of Disney+'s latest hit, and there is plenty to work with in subsequent seasons. Percy Jackson and The Olympians season 2 seemed like a foregone conclusion for the executives at Disney+, and now that confidence is warranted by a renewal order.

Just a few weeks after the show wrapped filming in early 2025, the latest news confirms the release month for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Setting an unusually-long release timeline for a TV show, Disney has now announced that the series is set to return in December 2025. No explanation has been given for why season 2 is taking so long, but it is likely due to the extensive visual effects. This news comes on the heels of the show's renewal of season 3, and it's already been confirmed that the next season will adapt Rick Riordan's novel, The Titan's Curse.

Season 2 Is On The Way

As predicted, Disney+ wasted no time in renewing Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a second season, and the only surprise is that it didn't come sooner. Percy Jackson's streaming numbers were the most obvious motivator for the renewal, but the positive critical reception helped as well. Though Disney+ hasn't announced plans after season 2, fans should expect the show to stick around for a while.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 concluded on January 30, 2024.

Production would carry on throughout 2024, and it wasn't until February 2025 that author Rick Riordan revealed that season 2 had wrapped filming. Despite this, there is still an extensive post-production phase still to come, and Disney plans to release the series in December 2025.

Percy Jackson And The Olympians Season 2 Cast

Percy, Grover & Annabeth Will Return

Walker Scobell will be back in the title role of Percy Jackson, and he will be ed by Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood since they form the trio of main characters. The only cast member who cannot return is veteran actor Lance Reddick, who played the role of Zeus. Reddick sadly ed away in 2023. The role has now gone to Courtney B. Vance.

It was promised that season 2 would introduce more characters, and that promise is already coming true with the announcement of Daniel Diemer as Tyson. Diemer is set to play Percy's lovably awkward and shy half brother, who is a cyclops. Other newcomers include the three Grey Sisters who are played by Sandra Bernhard (Anger), Kristen Schaal (Tempest), and Margaret Cho (Wasp). Furthermore, Tamara Smart has been tapped to play Thalia, a daughter of Zeus who helps Annabeth and Luke at Camp Half Blood.

To add further star power to season 2, Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday) has been tapped to play the role of the Greek Goddess, Athena. Not only is Athena the god of wisdom and war, but she is also Annabeth's mother. Lina Manuel Miranda let slip that his character, Hermes, is back in season 2. Rosemarie DeWitt s as New Age guru, C.C., while Aleks Paunovic appears as the cyclops, Polyphemus. Kevin Chacon plays Hermes' son, Chris Rodriguez, and Beatrice Kitsos appears as the newly created character, Alison Simms, who is a follower of Kronos.
