The ancient history of its world is one of One Piece's major mysteries, but the series may have already explained its past in a brilliantly subtle piece of foreshadowing. This would hardly be the first time One Piece's creator Eiichiro Oda hinted at a major plot point years in advance. Also, as more recent revelations have arisen in the aftermath of Wano and the beginning of Egghead Island, this seemingly wild theory has gained more credence.
Heading into its Final Saga, One Piece has revealed one major lore detail after another, completely changing what fans thought they knew about the series' world. In Wano it was confirmed that one of the Ancient Weapons had been concealed behind the island's natural walls, only to be released once those walls fall. And Egghead Island has revealed the existence of a Great Kingdom with incredibly advanced technology. It also revealed that a destructive giant robot once attacked the Red Line for an unknown reason. All of these facts imply that the great lines dividing One Piece's world may be artificial creations that can be torn down.
Sanji's Dream Explains That The One Piece's World Once Looked Different
One Straw Hat's dream actually already implied this a long time ago, however. When Luffy first met Sanji, the chef said that it was his dream to find the legendary All Blue, an ocean that contained fish of every kind. The map of One Piece's world implies that this All Blue doesn't currently exist, yet the legend was likely still inspired by something. If the Grand Line and Red Line didn't exist, then instead of East Blue, West Blue, etc., there would only be one All Blue, a single ocean containing all the fish now spread in the different seas. This implies that at some point in the past, this legendary All Blue existed, and the Lines did not.
This would have major implications for One Piece's broader world if it is true. IT would likely mean that in order to more easily divide the people of the world and thus more easily rule them, the World Government erected the Lines as natural boundaries, using This would also make sense given the fact that the home of the Celestial Dragons, Mariejois, is located at one of the intersections of the Red and Grand Lines. If this theory is true it could also imply that by the series' conclusion, Luffy and his crew will tear down these walls, unifying the seas and fulfilling not only Sanji's dream but also one of the series' main themes of bringing people together.
One Piece Could End With The Destruction Of The Red Line
Sanji's dream of finding the All Blue has been rarely mentioned, if ever, since he ed the crew. However, if the theory proves to be true, this would be an incredibly satisfying and epic way to end the series. It would also completely reshape the status quo of One Piece's world, likely shifting the geography of the setting more towards how it was in the mysterious Void Century. Only time will tell if the recreation of the All Blue will be a triumphant or catastrophic moment in the series, but either way, it is a sign of how subtle and impactful One Piece's foreshadowing can be.
