Summary

  • Blackbeard's lineage hints at the existence of another secret race other than the Buccaneers.
  • Blackbeard's abilities, including using more than one Devil Fruit, may be explained by his unique ancestry.
  • Big Mom's mention of a long-forgotten race implies Blackbeard belongs to an almost extinct, unheard-of race.

One Piece has just dropped a major hint about Blackbeard, and it could be the key to solving many of the biggest mysteries surrounding his character. The latest chapter of One Piece hints at Blackbeard's special bloodline, teasing the possible existence of an all-new race like the Buccaneers, which could explain many of the puzzling mysteries about Blackbeard and his abilities.

Chapter #1107 of One Piece reveals the Blackbeard Pirates, particularly the Titanic Captains Catarina Devon and Van Augur, have also arrived at Egghead. A peculiar conversation between Saint Saturn and Catarina reveals that Blackbeard belongs to a special bloodline, a fact that Saint Saturn is also aware of. Though the chapter does not provide any more hints as to what this lineage could entail, it is possible that Blackbeard could belong to another secret race like the Buccaneers and Lunarians.

In fact, Blackbeard's ancestry might explain many of his peculiar characteristics, including his sleeping habits and his unique ability to use more than one devil fruit. This new race might also be one of the three races Big Mom mentioned that were missing in Totto Land.

Blackbeard May Belong to the Final Race Big Mom Was Looking for

Big Mom mentions the three missing races at totto land in one piece

In chapter #951 of One Piece, Big Mom mentions three races that cannot be found in her territory — the Giants, who have a strained relationship with Big Mom, the Lunarians, of whom King is the last remaining survivor, and a mysterious third race that Big Mom claims might have gotten "lost in the mists of time." Blackbeard likely belongs to this nearly extinct, forgotten race.

Although they appear to fit the description, it is unlikely that Big Mom was talking about the Buccaneers. Based on Kuma's backstory, it seems that Buccaneers existed until quite recently and were quite well-known among nobles and common folk alike. Kuma is said to be 47 years old at present, so the Buccaneer race still existed and was easily identifiable until half a decade ago. It is also possible that Big Mom simply grouped the Buccaneers along with the Giants as a subspecies since the Buccaneer race is said to carry the blood of the Giants.

While some fans have theorized that Blackbeard could be a Buccaneer, he does not fit the description of the Buccaneers beyond his physical appearance. Blackbeard has displayed neither the physical strength nor the durability or any other powers associated with the Buccaneers. More importantly, if Blackbeard were a Buccaneer, surely Saturn would have simply said so.

Big Mom's choice of words describing the third missing race implies this race has been supposedly extinct for a long time and has been almost completely forgotten. Hence, it is most likely that Blackbeard belongs to a new race that is yet to be introduced. The series also teased Kuma and King's lineage in a similar manner, setting the stage for their unique abilities and powers.

Blackbeard's Ancestry Explains His Abilities

Blackbeard's special bloodline might explain how he was able to steal Whitebeard's devil fruit powers and wield them alongside his own without any consequences, which is easily one of the One Piece. Blackbeard is currently the only individual in the series to be able to do so, and perhaps this could be explained by his genetics. Like King and Kuma, who both possess unique genetic traits and abilities, Blackbeard's lineage could explain these various oddities, particularly why he rarely slept as a child, as well as why Marco claimed Blackbeard had an odd body at Marineford.

Overall, Blackbeard has been the object of many outlandish theories since his introduction in One Piece and the revelation of his mysterious bloodline will likely spark even more debates. Hopefully, the series will put an end to these doubts in time for Luffy's eventual rematch against Blackbeard.
