Two days were added to the countdown of every Reddit has proved that there are many things to justify the excitement over the new project.
From Kenobi's introduction to Leia to a quirky cameo, Redditors have shared their hopes and speculations about what they want from the new adventure of the beloved character.
Ben Or Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Ben or Obi-Wan? Any Star Wars fan will be familiar with both. However, the same isn't true for some characters since Luke knows him only as "old Ben Kenobi" in A New Hope. Among many decisions Luke made in Star Wars, saving Leia from the detention block was one of the best things he did. In the scene, Leia refers to Kenobi as "Ben" after Luke calls him that, even though she knows him as "Obi-Wan".
Based on that, Disney+ series could offer a hint regarding this, mentioning that Leia "has met with Obi-Wan before, but he introduced himself as Ben Kenobi". While Leia could be aware of Kenobi's alias without meeting him, this is a hidden gem that could be explored in the new show.
Will Obi-Wan Visit Shmi Skywalker's Grave?
Part of the appeal of the Kenobi series is the potential to fill the gap in the history of the franchise, similarly to what best parents in Star Wars, and the show could pay homage to the character.
Although this moment wouldn't be regarded as a relevant point for the plot, it's an emotionally important part that ties the prequels and the originals, fitting right into Disney's intertextuality pattern.
Will They Meet Again?
While every fan is excited to see Ewan McGregor again, the show opens up the possibility of bringing back other iconic characters and reuniting them with the Jedi master.
Unsurprisingly, one of these characters is Vader. Reddit KoobusVenter questions if a Kenobi reunion "could ruin" the conversation between Obi-Wan and Vader in A New Hope, where Vader seemed to think Kenobi was "long dead and gone". The adds that the show will likely "write their way around" the issue, but it must be said that one thing Star Wars fans are looking forward to is for canon contradictions to be avoided, so the show doesn't end up being a major disappointment.
Comic Inspiration
Many comic books offer epic moments of Kenobi, and just like the cinematic universe influenced the comic one, the opposite can occur in the new show.
Reddit KingAlfredOfEngland "hopes" the fans get to see the meeting between Obi-Wan and A'Sharad Hett, which would reference a moment in the comics. It's unclear whether or not Master Hett will be in the new series, but it would be entertaining to see the Star Wars comics inspiring new stories.
The Inquisitors
The Star Wars games contributed immensely to expanding the franchise's universe, with the Order of Inquisitors being predicted and confirmed by the Kenobi trailer.
Although they don't know where the games fit in the show's timeline, Reddit RaggedyPkmn would be "interested" if the "reports of a Jedi" get to Vader and the villain sends the Inquisitors "after him". Since the trailer shows of the organization in Tatooine, this prediction is spot on, and gamers can look forward to seeing the familiar villain again.
Will An Inquisitor Change Sides?
Following the confirmation that the Inquisitors will be part of the show, Reddit gibe_monies started a debate about which Imperial character "will switch sides" in the story. The added that a possible arc might include the villain "questioning their loyalty to the Empire" and "helping Obi-Wan" in the show.
While another Reddit thinks that move should be avoided because it's a "cliché", a third Reddit assumes it'll be Reva. Whether or not Reva will help Obi-Wan, writers must be careful when recycling narratives, especially in a massive franchise like Star Wars.
Comedy Relief Cameo?
Star Wars has always had room for comedy, from the originals to the prequels. Inspired by that, the Kenobi series can bring back a known character in what can be a hilarious cameo to keep the tradition.
Reddit Pallyboy94 hopes the Death Sticks dealer "makes an appearance" in the new show, which would mirror the scene from Attack of the Clones. This idea is wildly popular in Kenobi's fan community, as many would consider this a proper Easter egg dedicated to die-hard fans.
Commander Cody
Commander Cody is a known name to fans of the prequels and The Clone Wars. Thinking about the character's place in the new show, one Reddit started a discussion regarding Cody, reflecting on whether Obi-Wan would "fight and kill him" or if he could have a redemption arc. Reddit Shadowrent01 added that the character is "still bound by Order 66", so "he'll fight" Obi-Wan.
Friend or foe, Cody is one of the most compelling characters from The Clone Wars, and it's thrilling to imagine the possibilities his presence offers in the show.
Old Masters
With the announcement of Vader's return, fans have been excited about other possibilities of a reunion. Reddit Nikutate is looking forward to seeing "some of Yoda's training for Kenobi". Given that in Revenge of the Sith, Yoda trains Kenobi for communication with Qui-Gon, the "hopes to see" Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon in the usual force spirit fashion.
Since Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will reunite in Kenobi, that might not be a stretch. Bringing back Qui-Gon would fit into Disney's nostalgic pattern, and reencountering his former master would also be meaningful to Obi-Wan.
Words Of Wisdom
Concerning what the wise Jedi master has to say, Star Wars Rebels. Another Reddit disagrees, fearing the repetition and saying that a message to a young Luke would have "more impact".
This debate represents the challenge faced by Obi-Wan Kenobi, standing between nostalgia and innovation to fill a decisive Star Wars gap. In this duel of fates, the balance lies in looking forward to hearing Ewan McGregor provide an anticipated "hello there!".
