the "Imperial March," best known as Darth Vader's theme, are instantly recognizable the world over. Throughout the Star Wars saga, nearly every character has been granted their own personal theme by the great Williams, though the Imperial Stormtroopers— perhaps one of the most well-known figures from the Star Wars universe — have been left out.
However, composer Holt has revealed that in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Stormtroopers will finally be getting a piece of music all to themselves. While Williams is returning to compose a theme specifically for Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan, Holt has tackled the music for the rest of the series, making her the first female composer to score the Star Wars universe. In a recent interview with THR, Holt described some of the new music she has written for the series. While the composer has itted that she is unable to go into detail before Obi-Wan Kenobi is released, she has stated that she has composed themes for many characters, planets, and even something new for the Stormtroopers. See her full quote below.
"Obviously, John Williams has written the Obi theme, but I did start off trying to write one, to be honest. I was writing from [director] Deborah's [Chow] instructions and it was interesting. She was like, 'He's in the desert. He's lost, he's been alone.' It's like anything for his theme would just be small, crumbling, fragmented, and thin. Then it would grow as he goes on this journey. That was kind of interesting seeing the place that I arrived at, just for the world and his environment. Obviously, there are lots of different characters in the show, and I did also write music themes for planets. In addition, there is a Stormtroopers theme. That's all I can say right now."
While Holt was unable to go into any detail without revealing too much about Obi-Wan Kenobi, many may be left wondering how much this new theme will draw on Williams' already existing "Imperial March." While it is mostly associated with Darth Vader (who will also appear in the series), Williams originally composed it to represent the whole Empire. It is unknown if the new theme will be some sort of variation on this music, or something entirely unique. With that said, it seems there is a chance that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be following in previous instalments' footsteps and bring the world a new iconic Star Wars theme.
