Obi-Wan Kenobi also saw Obi-Wan and Darth Vader face off yet again and provided updates to Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader's Star Wars timeline. This included having Vader tell Obi-Wan he wasn't responsible for all that had happened in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which was both surprising and profound. Obi-Wan Kenobi almost featured a storyline that would have made the show so much better, though: the return of Commander Cody.
Cody Was Originally A Part Of The Obi-Wan Kenobi Series
Originally, Obi-Wan Kenobi was going to include a cameo from fan-favorite character Commander Cody, who was last seen in live-action in Revenge of the Sith when he tried to shoot Obi-Wan down during Order 66. Writer for Obi-Wan Kenobi Stuart Beattie previously revealed that Cody was meant to show up in a surprise attack in the show, wherein he would have effectively jumped Obi-Wan, taking him to an alleyway and threatening his life. This jarring scene would have revealed that Cody wasn’t really trying to hurt Obi-Wan.

Clone Protocol Order 66 caused once-loyal Clone troopers in Star Wars to wipe out the Jedi, but a handful managed to survive this initial purge.
Instead, Cody would have been attempting to reveal to Obi-Wan that he wasn’t being careful enough. This would have been a major update to Cody’s character, especially in of his relationship with Obi-Wan, as it meant that he had removed his inhibitor chip since Revenge of the Sith and was no longer driven to kill Obi-Wan because of the Order 66 directive. He would have been there to protect Obi-Wan and act as his “secret buddy,” as Beattie put it, which undoubtedly would have been meaningful to Obi-Wan, who would have expected Cody to still want to kill him.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi Show Needed A Storyline Like Cody's
This storyline would have been brilliant in Obi-Wan Kenobi for a number of reasons. For one, Cody is a popular Star Wars character, and many have hoped to see his return to live-action. Even more importantly, though, this storyline would have followed up on Obi-Wan and Cody’s last encounter, which was pretty crushing.

Cody and Obi-Wan were a prime example of how some Jedi had legitimately become close with their clone troopers throughout the Clone Wars. Just before Cody attempted to kill Obi-Wan during Order 66, in fact, he had handed Obi-Wan back his lightsaber, which had fallen. Watching Cody then receive the command to execute Order 66 and immediately move to attack Obi-Wan was therefore devastating.
This storyline would also have followed up on the prequels more directly, which would have been a popular choice. Obi-Wan Kenobi had ties to the prequels, obviously, as it was a direct continuation of Obi-Wan’s story in Revenge of the Sith. The show received considerable criticism for not focusing enough on the titular character, though. This would have been one way to address that. By bringing in Commander Cody, Obi-Wan Kenobi would have felt much more connected to the prequels and to Star Wars: The Clone Wars as well.
Obi-Wan Himself Needed Someone Like Cody To Him
Having Cody appear on Tatooine would also have been great for Obi-Wan. At the beginning of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Obi-Wan was revealed to be nearly entirely beaten down. He carried immense grief and guilt over all that had happened with Anakin, who he believed to be dead, and he’d cut himself off from the Force in the years since Revenge of the Sith, so much so that when a Jedi sought his help, he simply told him he should be hiding from the Empire. He had truly lost hope, it seemed.
Bringing Cody in would have offered Obi-Wan a system he didn’t have in the show. He undoubtedly would have been comforted by Cody’s presence, and, evidently, Cody also would have been working to protect him, which would have been an added bonus. It really is such a shame this Obi-Wan Kenobi storyline with Commander Cody wasn’t ultimately included in the show, as it would have been a great arc for both Cody and Obi-Wan.
