Summary
- Nintendo may be strategically timing the Switch 2 announcement for the summer gaming news season.
- Leaked info suggests the Switch 2 reveal will be in June 2024, with a potential release in Q1 2025.
- No official statements on console specs or games yet, but rumors point to a big Nintendo Direct announcement.
The next console to be released following the Nintendo Switch, whether it ends up being called the Switch 2, Super Switch, or something entirely new, has yet to be announced despite it being obviously in development. Every Nintendo Direct, or even social media post, put out by the company stirs up excitement. Still, Nintendo may know exactly what it's doing with timing this debut. Nintendo is in a league of its own for the modern console wars, yet there is one season during which it has the potential to draw attention away from all the other gaming giants.
The Nintendo Switch is in its eighth year, giving it a much longer lifespan than most consoles receive these days, and yet it is still a very popular unit with successful games. In recent years, however, the outdated hardware in the Switch has made it difficult, and sometimes impossible, for some third-party game developers to put their titles on the Switch, as was seen in the case of Hogwarts Legacy's delays for its Switch release. This all means that although the Switch is a wonderful console, it is overdue for a significant upgrade, and an announcement regarding a new console has been continuously expected for a couple of years.

New Nintendo Switch Game Rumors Prove It's Not A Dead Console (Yet)
Despite rumors that a new Nintendo console is on the horizon, there may be over a dozen new Switch games due to release in 2024.
Nintendo Could Be Holding The Switch 2 Announcement Until June
One Of The Busiest Seasons For Game News
Nintendo's newest console will undoubtedly be a massive topic of discussion in the gaming community as soon as announcements are made, no matter when that happens. Therefore, it makes sense for Nintendo to strategically time the reveal for when they will divert the most attention to the company, such as the gaming news season in summer. Even without E3's help, June and the summer months are full of announcements with Summer Game Fest, PlayStation's State of Play or Showcases, and much more, a perfect time for Nintendo to make a splash.
Leaked Information Looks At June Being The Switch 2 Reveal
No Statements On Hardware Specifications Or Games Yet
A Brazilian journalist named Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, who has leaked Nintendo information correctly in the past, recently said on a Switch 2 will not be released until Q1 2025. Though disappointing, it all does make sense that if Nintendo announces the Switch 2 in June, the company could easily be planning on releasing the console in 2025.
Of course, all of this is still just rumors and suppositions until the official announcement comes from Nintendo. It sounds logical to assume June 2024 for a Nintendo Direct featuring the Switch, and leaks from this source have been correct in the past. That doesn't mean that Nintendo won't decide to throw a curveball to shake things up a bit, though. Until then, the Nintendo Switch is doing well on its own, and fun new games are still planned to come out in the next few months.
