The Naruto would be receiving four special episodes to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the anime, although there was (and still is) no indication of what these episodes will be about. The release date for the episodes was revealed by the official Naruto and Boruto Twitter to be September 3.
Naruto's Anniversary Specials Arrive Soon in Japan
The date given is the Japanese premiere, of course, and the exact details of an English release for these special episodes have not yet been revealed. It's also not clear if all four episodes will be debuting on that day, or if that will merely be the date of the first episode, with the remaining ones airing week-to-week. The announcement Tweet seems to confirm that these episodes will be original content, rather than remakes of important episodes, as some fans speculated it might be. It also seems likely that these episodes will be set during the pre-time skip era, rather than Shippuden-era.
It's been a good year for Naruto fans, as Kishimoto's one-shot manga about Naruto's father Minato, the topic of which was decided by fans, will be debuting on July 18, 2023. It was also announced earlier this year that the Boruto anime would be receiving its own Shippuden-style sequel series, set to pick up sometime after the first series' conclusion, which aired back in March. With these four anime episodes in the mix too, that's quite a lot of new content to look forward to, and no doubt fans of the monstrously popular ninja franchise are thrilled to have it.
The return of a young Naruto to TV screens is likely to be a blast of nostalgia for many, as the original series was a staple of 2000s anime and continued airing on Cartoon Network for years. Hopefully fans will be able to get an early peek at these new Naruto specials as the airdate draws closer.
