Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter #393My Hero Academia has just seen Ochaco Uraraka undergo her own Quirk Awakening, and the nature of the upgrade is suspiciously similar to Shigaraki's. Quirk Awakening is a feat that very few characters have managed over the course of the series, and most of those have been by bad guys, so to see Uraraka achieve it is quite impressive.

In chapter 393, as Uraraka attempts to handle the influx of Toga/Twice clones, they begin to float away from her as she touches them. However, it doesn't stop there; those floated by Uraraka's Quirk begin to bump into others, causing them to float as well. Soon, as they careen around weightlessly, nearly every clone has been rendered helpless, hovering in the air with no way to return to Earth. It's the perfect ability for a hero like Uraraka, as she can incapacitate large numbers of people without actually hurting any of them. It also happens to be exactly the sort of power the heroes need on their side right now.

Uraraka's Quirk Awakening Functions Like Shigaraki's Own Awakening

My Hero Academia 393: Uraraka's Quirk Awakening

Way back in the "My Villain Academia" arc, Shigaraki improved his Decay Quirk after an awakening. Previously, anything he touched would disintegrate, but after the awakening, that Decay could transmit from object to object by touch, which is how he was able to destroy an entire city so quickly during the Paranormal Liberation War. Uraraka's power now works in the same way, by affecting one object, which then es along the property of being affected by the Quirk in whatever way it comes in . Since someone's first instinct upon floating is likely to be to grab on to something, it's easy to see how this affect would spread rapidly.

Ironically, by developing her power in the same way, Uraraka has actually created the perfect counter to Decay. In the event of another wave of destruction, she could have her allies hands, for example, and lift everyone off the ground, making it impossible for Decay to spread to them. This also has some obvious relevance to Uraraka's specialty, rescue applications, as she needs only to touch one piece of debris in order to lift all the debris trapping someone, for example. While it could be used offensively as well, she has already sworn off the idea of dropping foes from a great height, so don't expect to see the power at work in that way.

While many fans were clamoring to see a big Quirk Awakening for the heroes' side, Uraraka being the one to do it came across as quite the surprise. She's clearly being pushed to her limits here, and that is one of the key conditions needed to awaken a Quirk. There's also plenty of intense emotion about, another known requirement. With Ochaco Uraraka's power now on another level, the only question for My Hero Academia fans now is whether this power-up will help her get through to Toga.
