The My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 trailer showcases the return of one of America's most iconic families. The film is the third outing for the franchise, which began with the smash hit 2002 feature My Big Fat Greek Wedding, written by and starring Nia Vardalos. The film, which told the story of her character Toula Portokalos' attempt to have her impending nuptials to Ian Miller (John Corbett) go off without a hitch despite her intrusive and huge Greek-American family, was followed by the short-lived 2003 series My Big Fat Greek Life and had its first film sequel in 2016.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 release date on September 8. Check it out below:

The opening to the trailer reveals that Toula's father, who was played by the late Michael Constantine in the first two films, has ed away. This kicks off a trip to Greece for an epic family reunion that will only increase the bounds of Toula's wide, wonderful family even more.

Everything the My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 Trailer Reveals About the Sequel

By far the most important element of the My Big Fat Wedding 3 trailer is the reveal of the returning cast. Except for Constantine, quite a few of the major Portokalos family are set to appear, including Vardalos, Corbett, Lainie Kazan as Toula's mother, Andrea Martin as her aunt, and Elena Kampouris as her daughter Paris, who was introduced in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. There are many other My Big Fat Greek Wedding cast returning as well, even former NSYNC member Joey Fatone as her cousin Angelo.

The cast is also expanding, as there is a whole new country worth of Portokalos family to explore. It seems that the primary new family member will be a kooky new character who is described as a "cousin" because their actual relationship with the family is rather tenuous. Also on board for the journey is Elias Kacavas as Aristotle, a love interest for Paris with whom she seems to have history.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 teases that it has an overlapping array of storylines as the family explores their roots. This includes Toula's search for some old friends of her father, Paris' blossoming romance, and much more. The cast seems as willing as ever to throw themselves into their roles, providing the sparkling observational humor that the series is known for.
