9 Ethan's Abu Dhabi Airport Escape

Needed More Action

Grace talking to Ethan in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning

Early in the events of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt and the other IMF team find themselves at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, attempting to track down the holder of a key while also avoiding U.S. agents. A thief named Grace then steals the key, causing Cruise to chase her through the airport. All the while, Benji and Luther are tasked with disarming a nuclear device set up by the Entity, with all of these moving pieces creating a tense scene. With the exception of a few moments, however, there isn't all that much action.

8 The Chase Through Venice

Is Immediately Outdone

Grace and Ethan with the Entity in the background in Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning - Part 1

After failing to control the situation at Alanna's party, Grace escapes, causing Ethan to chase her through the streets of Venice at nighttime. The fast-paced on-foot chase sequence is a lot of fun, with the Entity impersonating the voice of Benji and leading Ethan on a wild goose chase. While the action scene is mostly shots of Ethan running, it is reminiscent of previous Mission: Impossible chase scenes, even if it doesn't live up to the other action scenes in the film. However, it does lead to two other even better action scenes.

7 Ilsa & Gabriel's Bridge Fight

Ends With An Emotional Blow

Gabriel in Mission Impossible 7

While Ethan is being distracted by the Entity in the alleys of Venice, Gabriel manages to find Grace, with him attempting to take the piece of the key back. However, Ilsa is there to step in, engaging in a fight with Gabriel while on a bridge. Both combatants wield blades and go at each other for a while. While the swordplay is impressive, it isn't as stunning as some of the later action scenes in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One. However, it does lead to the death of Ilsa, with this being one of the film's most tragic scenes.

6 Ilsa's Desert Sniper Battle

A Great Opening Fight

The first action scene in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One takes place in the Arabian Desert, with Ethan heading there to retrieve part of the key from rogue agent Ilsa Faust. Upon arriving, Ethan finds that a group of assassins are there to claim a bounty that has been placed on her, meaning that he has to fight them off. Ethan fights the assassins while Ilsa uses her sniper from afar, with the desert landscape being made even more interesting by the addition of a massive sandstorm.

5 Ethan & Paris' Alleyway Fight

A Great Claustrophobic Fight

After the chase through Venice, Ethan winds up in an alleyway, cornered by the Entity's assassin assistant, Paris. The claustrophobic setting and brutal blows that the two exchange make this fight one of the best one-on-one battles in the Mission: Impossible franchise, with it seeming almost impossible for Ethan to get out of this one. The simultaneous bridge fight makes this moment even more stressful, although this is the best of the Venice action scenes.

4 The Fight On Top Of The Train

The Weakest Part Of An Amazing Finale

Tom Cruise and Esai Morales fighting on top of a moving train in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One

The finale of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One consists of several stunts and fight scenes that take place around a train, with the fight on top of the train being the least exciting of the three. However, it is still a fantastic fight, with Ethan and Gabriel really going at each other throughout the scene. The various obstacles and the tense tunnel beat make the action scene even more unique, with it being a fantastic addition to the ending of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

3 Ethan Hunt's Mountaintop Motorcycle Dive

Lives Up To Expectations

The most heavily d stunt in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is Tom Cruise driving a motorcycle off of a cliff, and the scene really lives up to expectations. Throughout the scene, Ethan chases after a train on his motorcycle, with him pulling off some pretty wild tricks while attempting to catch up with it. The scene concludes with the famous mountaintop motorcycle dive, which Cruise really performed, ending with Ethan flying through the window of the train with an open parachute.

2 The Escape From The Falling Train

Immensely Creative

The train sequence in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One concludes with an exciting extended sequence of Ethan and Grace attempting to escape the train, with it being one of the most thrilling moments in the film. Gabriel blows up a bridge that is in the train's path, causing the train to dangle precariously off the edge. Ethan and Grace have to climb up the hanging train, avoiding falling obstacles and using chairs and other various structures to make their way to the top. The scale, danger, and tension make it one of the film's best stunts.

1 The Car Chase In Rome

One Of Mission: Impossible's Best

Out of all of the fight scenes and stunts in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, the exciting car chase in Rome is the best one. The scene is constantly evolving, featuring moments on foot, on motorcycles, and in a hilarious yellow Fiat. Ethan and Grace are handcuffed together for most of the sequence, complicating their escape even further. The tense action scene mixes incredibly exhilarating stunts with Looney Tunes-esque gags, with this perfect combination making it the best scene in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.
