Class 1-A is home to some big-wig heroes-in-training, like Bakugo and Todoroki, but perhaps one of the most underrated heroes in the group is Kyoka Jiro, also known as Earphone Jack. Jiro has a pair of headphone jacks hanging from her earlobes, which allow her to detect even the slightest vibrations, making her the perfect choice for mission surveillance. However, she can also perform close-range attacks by channeling the sound of her heartbeat to create violent rumblings. Despite Jiro’s commonly indifferent personality, Season 4 reveals her past and ions, which are incredibly relatable to young individuals trying to find their way in the world.

Jiro Has a Surprisingly Relatable Backstory

Jiro’s backstory brings hope to those struggling to couple their ions with their career choice.

In Episode 86, Class 1-A performs an original song, Hero Too, in front of the school. During this extravagant performance, the lead singer and bassist, Jiro, reflects on her past. In a flashback, Jiro tells her parents that she wants to become a hero, not a musician, despite her devotion to her art. She apologizes to them, believing that they will be disappointed in her because they are the ones who introduced her to her craft. But her parents are far from disappointed. They her choice to become a hero and encourage her to forge her own path:

“Choosing a career is a big decision, and you have some good options. Maybe you can help others with your sound. In that sense, heroes and musicians aren't too different.” – Mika Jiro

Selecting a career path is difficult, and learning to incorporate one’s ions into that career is much harder. Despite her love for music, Jiro always looked up to heroes and wanted to help others. However, her parents showed her a new perspective: to find a way to combine her ion with her calling.

Not only did Jiro's music touch the hearts of U.A. High’s students, but it also brought a smile to Eri’s face, something no one else could accomplish. My Hero Academia’s most underrated hero has to be Jiro because her backstory is not just interesting but surprisingly relatable to those searching for their purpose.
