A trailer for Insomniac's canceled multiplayer game, Insomniac was hacked by the group Rhysida in December 2023 after the studio and Sony didn't bow to the hackers' demands.
In the short trailer that was shared by insomniacleaks on Reddit today, players got a greater idea of what Spider-Man: The Great Web's story would have been and which spider-people would have been involved. It's worth noting that the trailer appeared to be more of a proof of concept, as it used current assets from Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for most of the Spider-Men, with the notable addition of Gwen Stacy's Ghost Spider.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 DLC & Villain Accidentally Leaked In New Update
Players may have found out who Marvel's Spider-Man 2's first DLC villain will be through the game's massive 1.002 update.
What Would Spider-Man: The Great Web's Story Have Been?
The Spider-Verse Would Have Fought The Sinister Six
The trailer featured a new voiceover from Yuri Lowenthal, who plays Peter Parker in Insomniac's Spider-Man series. In this, Peter talks about assembling a group of friends to stop a supervillain prison break, name-dropping the Sinister Six as the main villains of the game and describing them as more "methodical" and "savage" in this iteration. This voiceover accompanied gameplay footage of a symbiote-enhanced Peter Parker and Miles Morales' Spider-Man ing forces with Gwen Stacy (a.k.a. Ghost Spider), Ben Reilly (a.k.a. Scarlet Spider), and the Spider-Man from 2099, Miguel O'Hara to take on Vulture, Shocker, Scorpion, Electro, Venom, and Doc Ock.
This Sinister Six lineup is mostly the same as the one in Marvel's Spider-Man but swaps out Mr. Negative for Venom.
Considering the fates of some of these characters before Peter got the symbiote suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, it's unclear where in Insomniac's timeline this story would have taken place, or if this trailer was simply intended as a proof of concept and different heroes and villains would appear in the finished product. It's clear through the use of portals and some differently stylized worlds that Spider-Man: The Great Web would have been built around the multiverse concept that has become popular in recent Spider-Man media, so it's possible that the villains would have been variants and wouldn't be so tied to the events of Insomniac's mainline continuity.
While the Spider-Man: The Great Web trailer does look like a fun premise, it's worth noting that it was being planned as a live-service title before it was canceled, with several character customization options allowing players to create a diverse array of spider-themed superheroes, and it's not clear how managing such a title would have impacted Insomniac's work on its acclaimed single-player experiences. It's unclear how such a model would have been received by Spider-Man fans either, as Marvel's rivals, DC, recently attempted to convert its acclaimed single-player Batman: Arkham series into a live-service model with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which greatly underperformed, potentially dooming that series.
