Summary

  • Green Bay's Jordan Love and Atlanta's Desmond Ridder are the lowest-ranked starting QBs in Madden NFL 24, but their stats show potential despite their low overall rating.
  • Joe Burrow edges out cover star Josh Allen for the number two spot in the quarterback rankings, showcasing his ing skills and high accuracy ratings.
  • Patrick Mahomes, with his impressive Super Bowl wins and MVP titles, rightfully claims the number one spot in the Madden NFL 24 quarterback rankings with his strong throw power and throw on the run abilities.

With Madden NFL 24's release on the way, it's already possible to rank the best quarterbacks the game has to offer. The next entry in the annual Madden franchise puts the latest and greatest advances in football analytics in players' hands, with season-starting stats based on performance throughout 2022. These ratings are subject to change over the real-life NFL season. 32 NFL teams means 32 starting quarterbacks (give or take a few stragglers who haven't officially announced their week one starters yet), so aspiring Madden managers can already start considering who to draft.

Madden NFL 24 player ratings are particularly complicated. The game grades players across 53 categories, ranging from the broad and always relevant, like speed and strength, to the specific and situational, like catch in traffic and short route running. These stats are combined into an overall rating, or OVR. For QBs especially, throw under pressure and throw on the run are vital. They primarily affect throw accuracy in sticky situations, which is what a quarterback needs most. Throw power is also useful to ensure that es can go the distance, while speed is a good reflection of a QB's general athleticism and ability to change position quickly.

The Best And Worst Starting QBs In Madden NFL 24

Patrick Mahomes winds up a throw. Aaron Donald stands in front of him with a fist raised as if trying to block him.

At least for now, Green Bay's Jordan Love and Atlanta's Desmond Ridder are the lowest-ranked starting quarterbacks in Madden NFL 24, with Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts ing them at 70 OVR. Love has been a quarterback with the Packers since 2020 and was a first-round pick in that year's NFL Draft. He was moved up to starting QB after Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets earlier this year. For the moment, his relevant stats are decent despite his low OVR of 70. With 90 throw power, 83 throw on run, and 81 speed, he'll make a decent addition to a Madden team—but his break sack stat, 73, is his weak point.

Ridder is in a similar boat as far as his Madden NFL 24 stats go, with high speed (88), throw power (91), and play action (82), but a poor break sack rating (71). His stats are somewhat hindered by his late start in the 2022 season, when he didn't take the field until week 15. He lost out on the starting QB spot to Marcus Mariota, despite recording one of the fastest times by a quarterback in a 40-yard dash. With Mariota now transferred to the Eagles, however, Ridder should have more opportunity to move up the quarterback rankings next season.

Joe Burrow, star quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, just barely edges out cover star Josh Allen for the number two spot in the quarterback rankings. With 95 OVR to Allen's 94, Burrow has Madden's endorsement. While lacking somewhat in speed with an 83, Burrow excels at ing, with high ratings in deep (93), medium (98), and short (99) accuracy. His throw under pressure at 94 and throw on run at 90 elevate him to one of the best quarterbacks in Madden NFL 24.

It's no surprise to see Patrick Mahomes at number one in the Madden NFL 24 quarterback rankings. Although a relatively new player, Mahomes has already racked up two Super Bowl wins, most recently in this year's LVII. Mahomes was also declared Super Bowl MVP both years he led the Chiefs to the championships, not to mention league MVP on two separate occasions. In Madden, Mahomes' best relevant stats are his throw power (97) and throw on the run (98), but he also boasts a high play action rating (96) and solid accuracy stats across the board.

As always, all player stats are subject to change once the NFL season begins. It'll be fascinating to see who moves up or down the ranks as real-life play progresses. The top QB at the end of the season may be entirely different from the top QB at launch. Either way, these quarterbacks will all be recruitable when Madden NFL 24 is released on August 18, 2023. It's already available in early access.
