Summary

  • DLC for Lies of P could answer pressing questions about the game's lore, including additional lore about the background of the Puppet Frenzy.
  • There are unanswered questions about the Terrible Dogfish's absence from the game.
  • The identity and significance of the enigmatic character Paracelsus could be explored in DLC.

DLC has seemingly been confirmed by job listings made by the game's developer, Neowiz Games, it is possible that a number of these most pressing questions could soon be definitively answered. Though some unanswered questions are of little real importance, there are a few ambiguities, queries, and mysteries that are unaddressed in the base game, which are of incredible significance to the lore of the city of Krat and its numerous inhabitants — with any luck, DLC will clear some things up.

[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Lies of P.]Based on the enduringly popular Italian nineteenth-century children's novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio, Lies of P is a Dark Souls-esque game filled with an unsettling and dark ambiance. The adaptation of Carlo Collodi's magnum opus was highly anticipated upon its announcement, and unlike some games, it has managed to live up to the hype. Set in the city of Krat, Lies of P, builds upon its source material and has created an almost living, breathing world full of interesting lore and unique characters. Despite this, the base game leaves a significant number of details unclear — some of which need answers.

Beyond its main quest line, Lies of P features a number of exceptional side quests. Some, however, are more entertaining and rewarding than others.

10 What Are The Green Monster's Origins?

Green Monster Of The Swamp Lies of P

Encountered in the Barren Swamp Nest, the Green Monster of the Swamp is one of the most aggressive bosses in Lies of P; however, unlike the game's other bosses, somewhat of an anomaly and an enigma. Although based on the Green Fisherman, a monstrous ogre that attempts to eat Pinocchio in The Adventures of Pinocchio, the Green Monster of the Swamp is in no way reminiscent of the source materials green beast. Furthermore, no explanation is afforded to the player as to what it is or why it is so hostile — even its in-game description states, "No one knows."

9 Will Sophia Return?

A close-up of Sophia from Lies of P.

Sophia is a crucial character in the story of Lies of P; however, her ending and current condition are left relatively ambiguous — depending upon the ending selected. A key question held by many that DLC could clear up, therefore, is whether she will return or not. This is slightly problematic, however, as her status in the DLC would likely only entrench one ending as canon — unfortunately, it seems likely, therefore, that Sophia won't make a return in any possible Lies of P DLC.

8 When And How Did The Puppet Frenzy Begin?

Lies of P Opening the Gate to Hermit's Cave After Purchasing Rusty Cryptic Vessel in Hotel Krat

One of the most substantial questions that is never adequately addressed in the base game is how, when, and even why the Puppet Frenzy begins. Though knowledge of this would likely not improve the situation in Krat, it would be incredibly interesting to learn more about the origins of this horrendous state of affairs. It seems likely that a portion of the DLC could focus on this element primarily because it is momentarily brought up in a rather mysterious post-credit scene featuring a new character named Paracelsus.

7 Where Is The Terrible Dogfish?

Terrible Dogfish Adventures of Pinocchio

Although Lies of P borrows a great deal from its source material, notably including its characters, it does neglect to include one significant figure from The Adventures of Pinocchio, the Terrible Dogfish. In the original book, the Terrible Dogfish is the final antagonist, and a substantial portion of the text concerns Pinocchio rescuing Geppetto from the oddly asthmatic sea beast. Despite this, the Terrible Dogfish is absent from Lies of P. Its importance to the plot of potential DLC could, therefore, be significant — either as a boss, location, or plot point.

6 Who Is Paracelsus?

Paracelsus sitting in a chair in Lies of P

Introduced in a post-credit scene, Paracelsus is an enigmatic character who will almost certainly play a role in future Lies of P DLC. Although little is revealed about his identity, motivations, or potential significance, it is made clear that he is perhaps responsible for the current disrepair in Krat. His name may be a further indication of his role in releasing the Petrification Disease that grips the city — Paracelsus was a 16th-century Swiss physician and alchemist credited with pioneering the scientific fields of chemistry and toxicology.

5 What Was Krat Like Before The Frenzy?

In the opening credits of Lies of P, the player gets to, very briefly, see images of the state of Krat prior to the release of the Petrification Disease. It would, however, be interesting to have a greater opportunity to explore the city before it fell into chaos and disrepute — perhaps in a flashback sequence. Even if this is not featured in DLC, it would be nice if extra detail was included in the game that refers back to the city's past.

4 Who Is The Legendary Stalker?

The Krat Festival's location with the Parade Master in Lies of P standing alone in the middle of the area with a cage strapped to its back.

A hidden mystery only encountered by those who take a significant amount of interest in the minutia and lore of Lies of P is the identity of the Legendary Stalker. The largest clue is that she is neither a bastard nor a sweeper — perhaps a reference to the Red Fox or the White Lady. Although a number of theories exist, there is little to no consensus as to the identity of this master stalker. Hopefully, DLC will clear up this conundrum.

3 Why Is There A Wizard Of Oz Post-Credit Scene?

A person in red shoes stands on a rooftop and clicks their heels in a screenshot from Lies of P. In the distance, the Krat skyline.

Although Lies of P is dedicated to adapting The Adventures of Pinocchio, a post-credit scene seemingly indicates that Pinocchio may be ed in Krat by a popular fictitious Kansan. The teaser features what appears to be Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz walking along a Krat rooftop wearing her iconic ruby slippers and striped socks. The figure taps her heels three times before the screen fades to black. If this is Dorothy, it evokes many questions, most pressingly: why is she in Krat? Hopefully, this and a plethora of other questions this post-credit scene engenders will be addressed in DLC.

2 Why Is Geppetto The Villain?

Lies of P Geppetto Found in Chapter 2 Before Truth/Lie Dialogue Prompt Near the End of the Game

A significant divergence from the source material in Lies of P is the relationship between Pinocchio and Geppetto. Though he is caring throughout the game, his true nature is revealed by the end of the story. Unlike other adaptations of the work, in Lies of P, Geppetto is evil and manipulative. He deceives Pinocchio and promises him human life; however, this is simply a deception, and all Geppetto wants is Pinocchio's heart so that he can resurrect his son. Although this is handled well in the base game, DLC could vastly expand on this and potentially give some added detail as to why Geppetto has become a villain.

1 Why Does Carlo Need Pinocchio's Heart?

Lies of P Pinocchio Meeting Sophia Before Every Truth & Lie Option with Other NPCs begins Throughout Journey

If the player elects to give Geppetto his heart at the end of the game, his creator will go back on his word and instead implant Pinocchio's heart in his son Carlo. This evokes a lot of questions — why does Carlo (a human) need a doll's heart, is Carlo a doll, and perhaps most curiously, why are Carlo and the Nameless Puppet stored in the same trunk? Hopefully, these huge questions will be addressed in DLC, as they are perhaps the most significant unanswered questions that linger following a complete playthrough of Lies of P.
