The Rotten Tomatoes score for Knuckles has been revealed, showcasing how the TV spinoff compares to the movies in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The miniseries follows its titular character as he trains Green Hills police officer Wade Whipple in the ways of the Echidna warrior. However, as he tries to help his new friend grow braver, he is targeted by a mysterious villain, the Buyer, that wants to steal his power.

Now, the Rotten Tomatoes score for the series has been revealed, with critics giving the Knuckles TV spinoff a 69% based on 13 reviews as of writing. This gives it a higher score than 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog, which sits at a 63%, but the same score as Sonic the Hedgehog 2. However, the series also has an audience score of 75%, the lowest of all three entries in Paramount's budding cinematic universe.

The critical reception towards Knuckles indicates most critics enjoyed the show, although some weren't on board for the adventure between the red echidna and Wade. Even so, reviews indicate a similar quality level to the Sonic the Hedgehog theatrical releases, meaning the series is still an enjoyable time for a wider audience. The only anomaly appears to be audience reviews, which are quite low compared to the first movie's 93% and the second one's 96%. However, more are likely to arrive as more viewers watch the series.

However, from a critical perspective, it appears Paramount's video game franchise is only improving with every new installment. If Knuckles manages to maintain positive reception as more reviews arrive, then it's a good sign for future Sonic the Hedgehog TV spinoffs featuring other familiar characters across the franchise. The miniseries could be the start of a much wider universe built around the many animal-based heroes from the video game, possibly even connecting more concretely to future movies.

The Knuckles spin-off on Paramount+ is largely self-contained, yet still features some cameo appearances from other Sonic the Hedgehog characters.

Since the series is quite new, there are bound to be more critical and audience reviews that further indicate how good an entry Knuckles is to the franchise. While audience scores in particular are lower than the movies, there could be more positive reviews as viewers finish watching the show. However, with both still quite positive, the Rotten Tomatoes scores are good signs for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 ahead of its release. With critical scores indicative of a steady level of quality, it appears the miniseries will be regarded as a key expansion of the franchise.
