Gojo Is Still Alive – In a Way

Produced by MAPPA, based on the original manga by Gege Akutami

JJKs the Prison Realm closes in on Gojo

The whole plot of the Shibuya Incident was to seal away the most powerful sorcerer alive, Gojo Satoru. Due to a brilliant plan by Kenjaku, Gojo was sealed in the Prison Realm. He went out fighting though, showcasing the strength that triggered such drastic measures from the villains. Although he is now completely out of the picture, he is still alive in the Prison Realm and might return to the series if he is rescued by his students and comrades. But for now, fans should assume that Gojo Satoru will not return anytime soon and that the sorcerers will fight the impending threat of the curses by themselves.

Nobara's Death Shattered the Hearts of Thousands

An Unexpected Demise that Opened a Lot of Questions and Theories

Nobara with a hole in her face

Probably the most unexpected death, Kugisaki Nobara ended up being killed by Mahito. She fought valiantly, managing to land a deadly blow to the curse. Realizing that Nobara could kill him, Mahito ran to fuse with his other body and regain his strength. Nobara ran after him after deciding that he was dangerous to be left alive. She pursued him to where Itadori and Mahito's other body were fighting, but was sadly caught by surprise, and Mahito ended up touching her face, which is all it took. Her death shattered Itadori's mind, who gave up on fighting but was luckily saved by Todo Aoi.

Nanami's Demise Was the Saddest

His Death Created One of the Most Memorable Moments in the Series

Mahito killing Nanami

Fans had grown to love the quiet first-grade sorcerer, Kento Nanami. The Shibuya Incident arc brought about a new side of Nanami never seen before, with intense fury after seeing many of his comrades killed. However, that wasn't enough and his luck ran out after facing Dagon, Jogo, and Mahito in a row. Even on the brink of death, he continued to fight until Mahito put him out of his misery. The anime heightened his emotional death, showing his true dreams before being blown apart. This was truly the most painful death so far, given how much he had suffered since he was a teenager.

The Disaster Curses Have Been Wiped Out

New, More Powerful Enemies Will Take Their Place

Jujutsu Kaisen Disaster Curses

The Disaster Curses are the most powerful curses besides Sukuna and constitute the main fighting force against the sorcerers in the Shibuya Incident. Born from humans' fears of natural disasters, they wished to eradicate all humans and replace them with curses, and Gojo Satoru was the only one standing in their way. In the fight between Jogo, Hanami, and Choso vs Gojo, Hanami was the first to be killed after making a blunder by going on the offensive instead of defending against Gojo's mighty power.

Dagon was the next to be killed. After awakening and trapping Nanami, Naobito, and Maki in his Domain Expansion, Megumi appeared and in a shocking turn of events, Toji Fushiguro entered the Domain. Sensing that Dagon was the strongest person there, he lunged at him and made quick work of him, bashing the curse's head multiple times until he exorcised it. Toji was a wild card in that he targeted anyone he deemed strong, and Dagon was unfortunate enough to catch the eye of the only man who defeated Gojo.

Jogo, the most hateful and violent Disaster Curse, was taken down by the King Of Curses, Sukuna. Besides sealing Gojo, Jogo desires the reincarnation of Sukuna to usher in a new age of curses. In his attempt to do that, he force-feeds Itadori 10 fingers, awakening Sukuna. Sukuna then challenged Jogo to land a hit on him, and would in return help with Jogo's goals. Sukuna was absolutely overwhelming Jogo, and after a destructive fight that destroyed many skyscrapers and killed hundreds of humans, Jogo was burned to a crisp by Sukuna's flame arrow. It wasn't a total humiliation for Jogo though, as Sukuna itted that he was one of the stronger opponents he faced over the years.

Finally, the sadistic Mahito was the most heinous villain in the incident, killing thousands of humans and taking down important characters. It took the combined efforts of Itadori and Todo to take him down, and the two brothers managed to do just that. In the Shibuya Incident's most intense battle, all three managed to exceed their potential and awakened in a battle that meant certain death for even the smallest mistake. Todo ended up losing his cursed technique, but with his help, Itadori landed the most powerful Black Flash that put absolute fear into Mahito's heart, running away cowardly from the bloodthirsty Itadori. Unfortunately, the one to kill Mahito was Geto, who stole his ability and subjugated him with his ability.

The Fates of Other Sorcerers Are Unknown

Fans Will Have to Tune in to Next Season

The finale of Jujutsu Kaisen's second season set up the plot of the exciting Culling Games arc, but it did not confirm the fate of other characters, most notably Naobito Zenin and Maki Zenin, both who were burned by Jogo following their battle with Dagon. Megumi also contributed a lot to the Shibuya Incident arc, sustaining many injuries. Fortunately for him, Sukuna and Shoko tended to him, and the teaser for season 3 showed him still alive and fighting. Takuma Ino, Nanami's sidekick, was also badly injured by Toji.

Every Jujutsu Kaisen Arc Ranked From Worst to Best

After being serialized for over 5 years Jujutsu Kaisen has a variety of arcs, all of which are great but some of which are better than others.

With the deaths of important sorcerers and most of the main villains, Jujutsu Kaisen will surely introduce fresh new characters. Given how the series has an amazing side cast, fans can rest easy knowing that Gege's great character design will replace the old cast. The arc was bloody, to say the least, mercilessly killing off allies and foes alike. The Shibuya Incident arc has been wildly considered Jujutsu Kaisen's best arc, and now that the series has fully adapted it, it is going to be hard for the anime to reach such a peak again.

Why the Shibuya Incident's Deaths Make It Jujutsu Kaisen's Peak

The Shocking Deaths in This Arc Make It Stand Out

Kento Nanami laughs as he dreams about retiring in Malaysia from Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya Incident arc.

It may seem shocking to suggest that the series of tragic deaths contained in Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya Incident Arc actually make it even better. However, it is undeniable that this arc had fans invested and glued to their screens like never before. No other arc of the iconic franchise has included such a staggering number of deaths that occur one after the other. As heroes and villains alike dropped like flies, viewers were left unsure who would be the next victim. Although this was truly heartbreaking to watch, it upped the emotional intensity and kept the fights compelling.

With sky-high stakes like never before, viewers began to realize that no character was safe from being killed in the brutal battles. Deaths like Nobara Kugisaki's and Nanami Kento's were completely unexpected and happened in a split second, barely leaving fans time to process what had just occurred right before their eyes. Not only were these deaths unpredictable, many of them, such as the aforementioned two, were quite premature and tragic. These respectable sorcerers' lives were cut short far too early, leaving Yuji and the remaining sorcerers heartbroken and reeling from the absolutely devastating losses of such beloved heroes.

These Losses Were Crucial To Yuji's Character Arc

These Deaths Forced Yuji to Level up to a New Version of Himself

Yuji Itadori surrounded by water droplets in Jujutsu Kaisen

These horrific murders that protagonist Yuji Itadori had to witness firsthand certainly broke the young sorcerer in a way he had never experienced prior. However, these events were crucial for his character development, forcing him to become stronger and avenge the losses of his friends and mentors. Shortly after witnessing Nanami and Nobara's deaths in quick succession, Yuji became filled with rage and a spirit of revenge, vowing to kill Mahito, who was the cursed spirit responsible for the despicable actions. He accomplished what he promised, murdering the spirit and vowing to show no mercy to cursed spirits who take innocent lives.

Although it is unfortunate that so many people close to Yuji ed away during the Shibuya Incident Arc, these tragedies steeled the protagonist's resolve and ultimately made him into a better sorcerer. Yuji's character development throughout this dramatic arc is another reason the Shibuya Incident is considered Jujutsu Kaisen's peak. Fans got to witness a new side of Yuji, a side that was driven, powerful, and completely merciless against evil curses. These heartbreaking deaths served as a catalyst to make Yuji stronger than ever before, equipping the hero to face the coming battles with Sukuna that will be even more horrific.

From the Shibuya Incident Onward, Jujutsu Kaisen's Deaths Will Only Increase

Heading into the Infamous Culling Game Arc, Fans Should Prepare Themselves for Even More Losses

Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen's opening

The the strongest himself, Gojo Satoru. Although these losses are devastating for those who have grown attached to the lovable characters, the possibility that any character could die at any moment keeps Jujutsu Kaisen compelling, tense, and ensures audiences never lose interest, making it a clever move on Gege Akutami's part.
