Fortunately for John Wick fans, there are some strong signs that John Wick: Chapter 4's ending. In the most recent installment in the hit Lionsgate franchise, John Wick faced off against the full might of the High Table and beat the shadowy cabal at its own game. Unfortunately, Baba Yaga didn't leave the duel unscathed and ended up seemingly ing away from his wounds off-screen, and the film closed with his good friends Winston and the Bowery King paying their respects at his grave (albeit with some very ambiguous dialogue).
Even with the apparent end to John Wick's vendetta and his demise, there have been clues that John Wick is still alive and simply faked his death to throw the High Table off his path. Since the film's huge success, there have been hints that the franchise will continue with Reeves as the star from producers, director Chad Stahelski, and even Reeves himself. But fans shouldn't expect a new film any time soon, as it will most likely follow its general pattern of waiting a few years between releases to create something truly worthy of the John Wick name and his legacy as one of cinema's greatest action icons.
8 Chad Stahelski Has Ideas Up To John Wick 9
Chad Stahelski has stated to John Wick: Chapter 4's alternate ending, the door for John Wick 5 has clearly been left open. What isn't clear is whether the director would choose to phase Reeves into a more ing role in those films, given that each film is released roughly 2-3 years apart. Regardless, it's always encouraging when a director and writer has a well-conceived and thought out premise because then the world-building and characters seem richer and more authentic, with as few inconsistencies and plot holes as possible.
7 John Wick's Director Believes Keanu Reeves Would Do John Wick 5
Stahelski and Reeves have been friends ever since their time working together on The Matrix movies, and the John Wick director firmly believes that if they found the right story Reeves would return. There are several viable options, from wanting to protect his old associate Cane from being killed to helping Winston and the Bowery King stand up to retaliation from the High Table. Perhaps an older, wearier John Wick would come out of retirement to help a young protégé or long lost child on their own mission of revenge.
6 Chad Stahelski Will Use John Wick 5 To Improve His Craft
When approached by Lionsgate to film John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4 back to back, Stahelski refused. While it was possible to do, and with certainly more after the first and even second film's proven track record, he preferred to take time off between each film. This not only allowed stories and ideas to percolate in his head more, but it gave him the opportunity to make each film feel distinct from its predecessor by applying the tools he'd acquired while growing in the interim. Improving as a director is one of the reasons John Wick 5 could be a project he takes on in a few years.
5 John Wick 4's Box Office Success Makes Chapter 5 Inevitable
John Wick: Chapter 4 grossed just over $432 million worldwide, making it the most successful film in the franchise to date. There's no doubt that Lionsgate would continue with the franchise even without Chad Stahelski, who has given the rights holder his blessing to continue the series in whatever way they see fit. Of course, the studio knows that the most lucrative way to do this involves reteaming Stahelski with Keanu Reeves and bringing John Wick back from the dead, and curious fans will definitely pay to see how his story will continue to unfold now that he's presumably out of the lifestyle.
4 A Producer Has Confirmed John Wick 5 Is Already In Development
According to IGN, a Lionsgate earnings call already confirmed back in June 2023 that John Wick 5 was in development. There isn't a script or story yet, but Basil Iwanyk stated, "I think that we are being – and the studio is being – very methodical and very smart about how we do it and not go for the quick buck," he adds. “It's become a very important franchise for the studio, a very important franchise for all of us that we want to keep alive and build out, but do it in a way that's organic and respectful.” It's good to know that Lionsgate has its priorities straight.
3 The Continental's Fresh Rotten Tomatoes Score
With a critics score of 63% and an audience score of 80%, The Continental: From the World of John Wick has proven that fans will watch material set in the John Wick universe even if it doesn't include the deadly assassin himself. Finding out the history of Winston Scott's management of the titular assassin's hotel, the formation of his friendship with Charon, and all the mechanics behind the world they inhabit it proved to be just as exciting and action-packed as the John Wick films. John Wick 5 will certainly be better received now that fans know even more about their favorite characters' backstories.
2 The Ballerina John Wick Spinoff Movie
The first spinoff movie in the John Wick universe is going to be Ballerina starring Ana de Armas as an assassin trained in the Ruska Roma family that adopted John Wick. While the Baba Yaga won't be in the movie very much himself, Reeves will help steward the franchise so that other characters that populate the extensive criminal underworld will have their time to shine. So far, there's been enough interest in the film, as well as the lore that contributes to the world-building to all but ensure that John Wick 5 happens, especially if there's any reason why Armas can't carry the movie and the studio wants to course correct with more of Reeves.
1 John Wick's Vendetta Against The High Table Wasn't Completed
John Wick might have cut off the head of the snake when he engaged in a duel with the Marquis, but his victory didn't abolish the High Table. Given that at one point it seemed like he was going to pick them all off one by one, and since so many of the High Table remain uned for, Wick's vengeance technically isn't over and there's room enough for more bloodshed. John Wick 5 could involve Baba Yaga abolishing an organization that predates the Roman Empire and creating something more egalitarian, or perhaps come out of retirement to help a dear friend.
