The second John Wick: Chapter 2 expanded the world and allowed for the story to continue through multiple films in which every installment feels bigger than the last.

John Wick 2 had already made the franchise global by taking John Wick to Italy, followed by a significant part of Parabellum taking place in Morocco. John Wick 4 continues the franchise’s global scale as suggested by the trailer, but the larger scope of the sequel does not come from the locations only. There seem to be more important characters in John Wick 4 than in previous films – both enemies and allies. Winston, Charon, and the Bowery King are returning for John Wick 4, which will see the cast additions of Bill Skarsgård, Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Scott Adkins in what seems to be a much bigger world.

Why John Wick 4 Could Be The Best Yet

Seeing Keanu Reeves as well as some of the biggest action stars in the world on screen is always exciting, but John Wick has also managed to combine the incredible fighting scenes with engaging, always-evolving lore. The inner works of the Continental hotel, the High Table, and how John Wick can find both enemies and allies all over the globe make it so that no John Wick movie is ever like the previous installment, which is why John Wick 4 could be the best one yet. After Parabellum, it seemed like there was not enough room left for John Wick to expand, but both John Wick 4 trailers have proven this wrong.

John Wick 4 Creates A Problem For John Wick 5

John Wick Chapter 4 family reveal high table

From the cast to the locations teased in the John Wick 4 trailers, Chapter 4 is sure to be the franchise’s biggest movie yet in of scope. However, as exciting as it is to have a massive-scale John Wick movie with Keanu Reeves’ character taking on the High Table, John Wick 4 creates a problem for the already planned John Wick 5. Whatever John Wick 4 does in of fighting scenes and lore, John Wick 5 will be expected to do on an even bigger scale. Though the John Wick films have always found a way to reinvent themselves, the franchise will eventually reach its peak.

How to create a sequel that is bigger than the previous films but that also does not feel repetitive is a challenge in which John Wick has so far succeeded. Parabellum was bigger than Chapter 2, just like Chapter 2 was bigger than the first John Wick. If John Wick: Chapter 4 manages to combine its ambitious scale with a solid story, then it could easily become the The Expendables mistake of having less believable films by each installment.
