Jason Momoa has already ed another video game franchise after the massive success of whenever Jack Black says "Chicken jockey" or "Flint and steel." The film also stars Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen.

In Minecraft, Momoa plays Garret "The Garbage Man" Garrison, a former video game champion who runs a run-down video game store. While Momoa is one of the film's main characters, Black steals the show as Steve, the childish adult who lives freely within the Overworld. A Minecraft Movie will likely receive a sequel, but Momoa reportedly has another video game movie lined up as he is in talks to a live-action Street Fighter movie.

Don't Be Fooled By Its 11% RT Score, Jean-Claude Van Damme's 1990s Martial Arts Video Game Movie Is Surprisingly Good

While Jean-Claude Van Damme has had some missteps across his career, this divisive 1994 video game adaptation was certainly not one of them.

It's unknown what the film's story will be or who Momoa will play, as it's still in early development. There is one rumor that Momoa could be playing Blanka. However, the Street Fighter series has a massive roster of characters, so there will likely be many more casting announcements. It's the latest major franchise for Momoa, who has been part of the DC Universe, The Fast and Furious series, Dune, and Game of Thrones. However, it'll be tough for any of his roles to beat A Minecraft Movie as the film has made almost $1 billion worldwide.

Jason Momoa Replacing Minecraft With Street Fighter Would Be Risky

Street Fighter May Not Perform As Well As A Minecraft Movie

Street Fighter is one of the most recognized and highest-selling video game franchises of all time. However, that doesn't always guarantee box office success for a video game adaptation. For comparison, one of Street Fighter's biggest rivals is the Mortal Kombat series. The 2021 film only made $84 million worldwide, albeit the film was available on HBO Max on the same day and came out amid the pandemic. Still, there isn't the same demand for fighter video game movies as there is for Minecraft.

The best-performing video game movies appeal to kids or adults who grew up with the games. The Sonic the Hedgehog films and The Super Mario Bros. Movie performed very well at the box office, and A Minecraft Movie s that crowd. While Street Fighter does have appeal for adults, it doesn't have the same appeal for kids. While the movie with Momoa could perform well, the actor would find more success if he returned for a Minecraft sequel.

Street Fighter Gives Jason Momoa A Bigger Video Game Future Than Minecraft

Momoa Could Have A Bigger Role In Street Fighter Than A Minecraft Movie

A Minecraft Movie ends with a bright future for Momoa's character. He reopened his video game store and formed a close bond with Black's Steve. However, Garrett isn't a character from the video games, and the clear fan-favorite from this film was Steve. Garrett could be pushed to the background in the sequel to focus on Steve and other video game characters, including Alex, who was teased in the film's post-credit scene.

Street Fighter could give Momoa a larger role since he'd likely play a character who's from the game, especially if it does end up being Blanka. He is traditionally an action star, so he fits this type of environment better than he does A Minecraft Movie. It may not make more money than the other, but Street Fighter offers Momoa a more promising opportunity to lead a video game franchise.
