Horror icon Jamie Lee Curtis is bringing a new scary story to the world in the form of an original graphic novel. Published by Titan Comics, Mother Nature is an eco-horror tale about a young woman whose crusade against an oil conglomerate in her town leads to a terrifying discovery. Curtis is co-writing the story with filmmaker Russell Goldman who will work with Curtis on a feature film adaptation of the book.

Fans of the horror genre no doubt recognize Jamie Lee Curtis as the actress that portrayed Halloween character, Laurie Strode. Curtis recently reprised the role in the 2018 Halloween movie, as well as its sequel, Halloween Kills. Aside from her role as Laurie, Curtis has been a part of other slasher classics such as Terror Train and Prom Night. With the Strode role nearly behind her once more, Curtis is teaming up with fellow Halloween collaborator, Russell Goldman, to bring a new tale of horror to life.

Announced via Entertainment Weekly, Curtis revealed information on Mother Nature, an original graphic novel based on a script she wrote with Goldman, with art by Karl Stevens. The story is about Nova Terrell, a young woman who seeks revenge on an oil giant whom she blames for the death of her father. In her attempts to sabotage the corporation, Nora discovers its experiments have accidentally awoken an ancient entity that threatens to destroy everything. A film adaptation of Mother Nature is also in the development stages from Comet Pictures and Blumhouse, with Jamie Lee Curtis directing.

As an icon of horror, the creation of Mother Nature seems to be a natural evolution for the actress. Jamie Lee Curtis is also an accomplished writer, having written a number of children’s books for HarperCollins Children’s Books, as well as blogging for The Huffington Post. With Curtis preparing to say her final goodbye to Michael Myers in Halloween Ends, this new story allows her to use her writing talents to craft a new tale of fear for fans can enjoy.

The story is personal for Curtis, who first envisioned the story in her teenage years. The graphic novel’s logline and Curtis’ own words paint Mother Nature as an allegory for the relationship of humanity and its environment. Horror is often seen as a socially conscious genre that addresses real life fears and anxieties in a way that viewers can recognize and connect with. Of course, comics are no stranger to helping creators tell stories that pull from real-life, so a graphic novel is a good way for Curtis, Goldman and Stevens to tell their story before Mother Nature hits theaters.

Though the film is still currently in development, Jamie Lee Curtis, Russell Goldman and Karl Steven’s Mother Nature will be available November 15, 2022.
