Tony Stark has always been an arrogant hero, but as Iron Man, he's definitely on the side of the angels. Sadly for the Avengers, that's about to change, as an evil Iron Man enters Marvel continuity. But this dark version of Tony isn't just a villainous Iron Man - he has a whole new armor and codename to set him apart.
The villainous redesign sees Tony's biological form hooked into his armor, with gigantic, repulsor-studded claws similar to a hi-tech lobster.

On the tail of the MCU's Thunderbolts*, the Winter Soldier is leading a new version of Marvel's New Avengers. Bucky and Black Widow are going up against corrupted versions of the world's greatest heroes, who have seemingly been cloned from the heroic Illuminati. Bucky has gathered the World's Deadliest Heroes - including Hulk, Namor, Wolverine and Eddie Brock's Carnage - to take out these incredibly powerful bad guys.

Tony has long been all ing his armor to test the limits of human ability, enhancing himself to stand alongside Marvel's superhumans. It seems that Iron Apex has the same mission but without any moral compunctions, grafting the Iron Man armor to their body to become a cyborg post-human. It's possible that Iron Apex has been using the Extremis Virus, which can reprogram the human body to work in tandem with advanced tech. Tony has done a lot to stop Extremis falling into the wrong hands, but as a villain, he'd be free to rewrite his genetic code however he wants.
Superheroes are defined by their villains, and that's good news for the New Avengers, who are about to take on twisted versions of Marvel's most powerful and capable heroes. Iron Man has taken down Ultron, Thanos and Fin Fang Foom, so what chance do Winter Soldier's ragtag group of heroes stand?
New Avengers #1 is coming June 11 from Marvel Comics, with issue 4 due for release later in the year.
