The status of Invisible Man 2 gets an update from Blumhouse head Jason Blum and could involve James Wan. Released in 2020 and just before COVID shut down theaters for months, The Invisible Man was a surprise hit of the year. The movie made $144 million worldwide on a small budget and received great reviews that praised Leigh Whannell's direction, Elisabeth Moss' lead performance, and the thrills. The Invisible Man's success brought an expectation that a sequel would be made by Blumhouse to give the horror-dominant studio a new franchise.

In the nearly three years since the first movie's release, there has yet to be any official announcement that Invisible Man 2 is happening. Audiences have been left waiting for answers about the franchise's potential, and now producer Jason Blum has provided an update. During an interview with THR to promote the 2023 sci-fi movie M3GAN, he was asked who is to blame for no Invisible Man sequel announcement. Blum itted that he is able and hopes to make it one day, and James Wan is even happy to lend a hand in making Invisible Man 2 a reality.

Blum: Well, it’s a great question. (Laughs.) I think we mostly hold me able, but hopefully, should our dreams come true and our two companies get to work together, maybe James will help me solve that problem.

Wan: I’d be more than happy to.

Everything We Know About Invisible Man 2

Elisabeth Moss holds a knife in The Invisible Man

Since Blumhouse has not announced any plans for Invisible Man 2, a potential sequel is still likely to take some time to get off the ground. Original star Elisabeth Moss spoke about her desire to make the sequel in early 2022, noting that the quality must be high for everyone to return as they do not have "any intention of just cracking out another thing." Leigh Whannell has spent the last few years attaching himself to other projects instead of writing the Invisible Man sequel script and doing other pre-production planning.

The latest Invisible Man 2 update from Jason Blum and James Wan could help change this. James Wan and Leigh Whannell are very close friends in real life and frequent collaborators. They launched the Saw franchise together in 2004 and then created another hit universe with Insidious. Now that James Wan's Atomic Monster and Jason Blum's Blumhouse are nearing a merger, Wan will have the ability to help push Invisible Man 2 forward. This could include writing the script with Leigh Whannell or simply working out the key concept and convincing Whannell to return as the director.

James Wan's interest in working in the Invisible Man franchise is a good sign that the sequel will come. The potential sequel is directly set up in The Invisible Man's ending after Elisabeth Moss' Cecilia takes the invisible suit after killing her ex. While she appears to get away with murder, the sequel could send Cecilia on the run as authorities come after her for Adrian's death. This would seemingly make Invisible Man 2 more of an Invisible Woman movie if it happens.
