Screen Rant is proud to reveal an exclusive preview of Breath of Shadows, the latest addition to IDW Publishing library of horror comics. IDW gained notoriety notably by being the same house of horror that supplied audiences with classics like 30 Days of Night and Locke & Key, as well as other popular titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now in 2023, IDW offers a five-part miniseries about Jimmy Meadows, a 1960s-era rock star who could lose everything unless he gets his heroin addiction under control. His hopes for a cure take him to South America, leading him to the supernatural depths of a jungle that matches the inner demons and paranoia within his own mind.
Beginning on February 1, Rich Douek and Alex Cormack's Breath of Shadows #1, IDW's latest escapade into horror, will be available everywhere comic books are sold. In the meantime, readers can scroll further below for a preview of three pages from the first issue, as well as cover art. Cormack designed Cover A, Björn Barends designed Cover B, and Fran Cavil designed the Retailer Incentive cover. The preview pages seem to indicate just how reality and the horrors of Jimmy's mind under the influence happen to blur together as he prepares for an interview. The preview also introduces some of the fair-weather friends and sycophants who will be accompanying Jimmy on his journey into the jungles of South America, where their excursion will veer off course and they will find supernatural horrors that outstrip any threats posed by Jimmy's inner demons.
What to Expect from Breath of Shadows
Both Rich Douek and Alex Cormack are Bram Stoker Award nominees, both having previously worked on Sea of Sorrows and Road of Bones for IDW Publishing. Additionally, Doucek has done work with both Marvel and DC while Cormack has illustrated for AWA Studios and ComixTribe. Both creators are well-traveled across the comic industry, working with numerous genres in numerous capacities.
The work that both men have brought to the horror genre in the past has been wholly memorable and Breath of Shadows promises to be just as buzzworthy, judging by these preview pages alone. Some of the imagery captured by Cormack looks truly mortifying and effectively spine-tingling. Meanwhile, Douek's writings hint at a deeper, complex character study in analyzing where Jimmy and his state of mind lie at the center of this supernatural plot.
IDW Publishing and horror have always gone hand-in-hand, and Breath of Shadows can be expected to be another promising, worthy entry into its library, exploring addiction and rock. IDW Publishing will be releasing Breath of Shadows #1 starting February 1.
