Netflix’s resident stalker, Penn Badgley’s Joe Goldberg, returns for You season 4 in London. After murdering his wife, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) and giving away their son, Henry, to Dante (Ben Mehl) and Lansing (Noel Arthur) at the end of You season 3, Joe skips town to start afresh. But it seems like Joe’s sins have come to haunt him in You’s installment trailer which sports a promising revamped vibe for the Netflix adaptation of Caroline Kepnes’ novels.

Since its release, Netflix’s You has been devoured by audiences through its three bingeable seasons in a row which has amped up the stakes time and time again. Although this format isn’t going to keep audiences on their toes forever. In an interview via cast and characters in You season 4 are certainly something to look forward to as audiences explore London along with Joe Goldberg.

You's Season 4 Trailer Reveals How The Show Has Changed

Joe Stalks Marienne in Paris in new You season 4 poster

Throughout You season 1 to 3, Joe has been the wolf prowling for his prey. You season 1 features Joe pining over Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and manipulating her life to lead to him. In You season 2, Joe does the same thing with Love Quinn (unaware that she was doing the same to him) but the rose-colored glasses break when Joe realizes that Love shares his murderous tendencies. And Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) in You season 3 is basically just another chain in the link Candace (Ambyr Childers) started. But in You season 4’s trailer, a short scene changes Joe’s role by transforming him from the hunter into the hunted.

You season 4’s trailer shows a scene where Joe receives an anonymous text complimenting his jacket, teasing that there is a new wolf in town out to get him. Shifting power from Joe into this mysterious figure, Netflix’s You flips its charming chameleon stalker’s modus operandi on himself. While this is essentially a bad thing for Joe Goldberg who's trying to move on with his life, this new element is a good thing for the show's audiences, and You's new unpredictable turns.

Why The You Season 4 Changes Are So Good For The Show

Joe and Kate in You Season 4

From season 1 to season 3, You has followed the same format with slight tweaks here and there. Although You season 4 would probably still be successful using this pattern, it wouldn’t garner the anticipation that it's getting right now. Hence, You’s showrunners were right to change the show’s pace and vibe for season 4.

Given that You season 3 forces Joe Goldberg to actually face his demons (that he is not a good person), his You season 4 arc is basically geared toward his own redemption. However, this is rendered impossible with Joe’s faceless adversary that initiates his survival mode. Due to this, You season 4 posits an intriguing premise that’s sure to keep audiences on their toes; hiking up its entertainment value for mystery thrill-seekers.
