In a bizarre conclusion to a Major Order, PC performance fix is on the way, but the latest technical hiccup made an important objective impossible.

A recent Major Order to rebuff Illuminate invasions in Helldivers 2 sent players to the planet Tien Kwan. Attempting to deploy onto the planet resulted in the game crashing, because the files for Tien Kwan had mysteriously been removed from Helldivers 2. A video from Reddit Shiboline shows the crash in action. The game attempts to load Tien Kwan but freezes and sends the player to their desktop.

Game Files For The Planet Tien Kwan Have Been Removed From Helldivers 2

It's Unclear When Tien Kwan Went Missing

Many players assumed that this was just some serious bug associated with Tien Kwan or the Major Order, but it's a much odder mistake. Tien Kwan is now entirely absent from the Helldivers 2 game files, and it's unclear when they went missing. It's clearly a mistake by developer Arrowhead Game Studios – there's no reason the developer would purposefully put a Major Order on a missing planet.

Tien Kwan was, in March 2024, the site where Exosuit stratagems first appeared in-game. They were part of a Major Order that resulted in the stratagem becoming available for purchase with Requisition, making them readily available via Hellpod drop. It is theorized that this, or the fact that Tien Kwan was one of the first planets to feature Meteor Storms, could be a contributing factor in the planet's files being removed. Arrowhead is aware of the issue, but has not provided an explanation.

Other theories propose that Tien Kwan is part of the presumed main Illuminate invasion, which is expected to occur alongside the Warbond being revealed on May 8, and a development oversight caused the planet's current files to be removed before they were replaced with updated ones. This has similarly not been addressed by Arrowhead and Tien Kwan is now unavailable for missions, as it has returned to Super Earth control with the disappearance of the Illuminate.

The Broken Planet Made A Major Order Unwinnable

The Illuminate Have Disappeared Anyway

Tien Kwan becoming unplayable made the Major Order impossible to win, but the outcome seems to have been beneficial regardless – perhaps a concession on Arrowhead's part in recognition of the unattainable objective. As of the new Major Order today, April 29, the Helldivers' efforts have succeeded in stopping the Meridian Singularity, which destroyed two planets on its way to Super Earth. In the wake of that victory, the Illuminate have seemingly been defeated, as they are no longer a threat to be fought on the Galactic Map.

Helldivers 2 has been in a similar situation before. At one point, the Helldivers succeeded in completely removing the Automatons from the galaxy, only to have the bots reappear shortly after. The Illuminate incursions have long been viewed as a precursor to a larger invasion force; only a handful of unit types have been seen on Illuminate planets so far. This disappearance seems like the preamble to the Illuminate returning in force and finally turning the Second Galactic War in Helldivers 2 into a true three-front conflict.
