A significant original Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley have all been cast, there are still plenty of crucial roles, including Draco Malfoy, that need to be filled.
At the time of writing, none of the original Harry Potter movie cast are expected to return for the HBO series. Harry Potter, originally played by Daniel Radcliffe, will be portrayed by Dominic McLaughlin. Arabella Stanton will take over for Emma Watson and Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, replacing Rupert Grint. 2-time Oscar nominee John Lithgow, who is currently 79 years old, will play Albus Dumbledore. Nick Frost, of Shaun of the Dead acclaim, will play Hagrid. 2-time Oscar nominee Janet McTeer will play Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu will replace Alan Rickman's legendary Severus Snape.
Tom Felton Playing Draco Malfoy Again Is A Good Sign For Remake Casting Hopes
He Would Create An Authentic & Nostalgic Bridge Between The Films & The Show
Tom Felton will play Draco Malfoy again in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway, opening the door for him to play another Malfoy, Draco's father, Lucius, in the HBO series. While there's been no official word of Felton being considered for the role of Lucius Malfoy in the HBO series, the fact that he's returning to play Draco is a hopeful sign. Felton was such an important part of the film series and would create an authentic and nostalgic bridge between the films and the TV show. Even though HBO has recast all of its known characters, the 37-year-old Felton seems like the perfect fit to play Lucius.
Tom Felton Would Be A Great Choice For Lucius Malfoy
It Would Mark A Fantastic Perfect Circle Moment
Since the role of Lucius Malfoy in the HBO Harry Potter remake has yet to be announced, it would be fantastic and exciting for Felton to get the part. As an older version of Draco in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway, teased in an Instagram reel, he already captures the sinister Malfoy aesthetic and essence so well.
Scenes in which Felton as Lucius speaks with the newly cast Draco would have an extra special meaning for audiences who loved the films.
While it may take a bit of adjusting to get used to Felton playing his father, not Draco, those potential scenes in which Felton as Lucius speaks with the newly cast Draco would have an extra special meaning for audiences who loved the films. Given the timing of Felton's return as Draco on Broadway, the stars may just align for the HBO series.
Could Any Other Original Harry Potter Actors Return For The Remake?
Daniel Radcliffe Could Naturally Guest Star As James Potter
While Draco returning to play Lucius would be incredible, Daniel Radcliffe also has an opportunity to return as Harry's father, James Potter. James appeared in various flashbacks and as a ghost throughout the original film series and has a much smaller role than Lucius by comparison. This would make Radcliffe's potential return to the Harry Potter universe as James Potter more of a guest star appearance than a recurring series cast member. Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom, could also return to portray his father, Frank Longbottom, in a brief cameo in what would be season 5, Order of the Phoenix.

HBO's Harry Potter Is Repeating A Frustrating Movie Mistake (But There's Still Hope It Can Be Fixed)
HBO's Golden Trio casting for the Harry Potter remake repeats an old movie mistake, but fixing it could be easier this time around.
Apart from these nostalgic original characters returning to play one of their parents in the main series, Warwick Davis, who played both Professor Filius Flitwick and Griphook, could theoretically return. Bonnie Wright, who originally played Ginny Weasley, could also theoretically return to play Mrs. Weasley. John Cleese could reprise his role as Nearly Headless Nick, and David Bradley could still play Mr. Filch. Other Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ing cast , such as Alfred Enoch, who played Dean Thomas, and Sean Biggerstaff, who played Oliver Wood, could also take on new roles in the series.
