Astrology may not be for everyone; some people, like Hermione Granger, look down on any kind of Divination, while others, like Luna Lovegood, are more open-minded, and willing to believe in unseen forces.

Regardless, it's evident from the books that the characters of the Harry Potter series were influenced by the Western zodiac to a certain degree, given that so many of them have official birthdays (and therefore signs) which link to their personalities in some way.

Updated on May 20, 2022 by Stacie Rook: The release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore shed new light on Hogwarts' most famous heaster, and similarly, fans of Harry Potter can gain insight into their favorite characters by looking at their zodiac signs, which can highlight a character's most prominent traits, or else bring something new to the forefront.

Aries - Fred & George Weasley

Fred and George Harry Potter

The Weasley twins fall under Aries because they were born on April Fool's Day (the most appropriate day of the year for the prankster duo), but Aries are also full of confidence and ambition. They know what they want, and they do whatever is necessary so they can get it. Aries are self-assured, ionate, impulsive, and in some cases, business savvy.

These attributes fit Fred and George perfectly, as there was never a moment that the twins doubted themselves or let others deter them from their goals. Additionally, there is an irony that Aries is opposite to Libra, the sign of partnership and balance.

Taurus - Horace Slughorn & Pomona Sprout

Tauruses have a reputation for enjoying the finer things in life, and they like to indulge in these pleasures — but only when they're earned. Horace Slughorn loved surrounding himself with successful people and throwing lavish dinner parties for his esteemed friends.

Pomona Sprout is also a Taurus, demonstrating the other side of the bull sign's coin. She valued hard work and encouraged her students when they showed promise. Ultimately, the pair's Taurean natures contribute to making them some of the best Hogwarts professors.

Gemini - Draco Malfoy

Gemini, the Twins, are multifaceted chameleons who assess social situations and choose their appropriate masks. Some may be quick to label Geminis as two-faced and fake, but at their core, Geminis just want to belong — preferably to a group they deem as cool or of respectable standing.

Draco knows how to play the social game. He picks the people and causes he wishes to align himself with and does his best to play the part, even if it goes against his conscience. Geminis can also feel conflicted between their head and heart, and by the end of the series, Draco was torn between following Voldemort and doing what was right.

Cancer - Dudley Dursley & Dobby

Cancers are homebodies who love spending time with family and friends. Dobby deeply cherished his friendship with Harry Potter, always going above and beyond to help and show his love.

On the flip side, Cancers can be moody or "crabby", something that's definitely apparent in Dudley Dursley. He loved his creature comforts and being around his parents, who always pampered him, but was also prone to nagging and sulking when he didn't get his way.

Leo - Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, Neville Longbottom

Leos, represented by the lion, are natural-born leaders, which makes perfect sense for Gryffindors Ginny Weasley, Harry Potter, and Neville Longbottom.

Though the latter two seem totally different from each other at first, there are several ways that Harry and Neville are the same, and their shared zodiac sign emphasizes this. Leos naturally attract attention and tend to become quite popular within their social circles. They're also loyal, brave, and protective, but can be arrogant or prideful.

Virgo - Hermione Granger & Dolores Umbridge

Virgos are meticulous and logic-driven. They strive for perfection, holding everyone to high standards — especially themselves. When they can't reach these heights, they're prone to anxiety and stress. Hermione's studious nature is the perfect example of these Virgo qualities, as is her Boggart, which shows her failing her classes.

Alternatively, Virgos can have a set view of how the world should be and expect it to meet their values and ideals. Dolores Umbridge shows this darker side of Virgo, showcasing prejudice and the need for total control.

Libra - Minerva McGonagall

Even though Libras have a reputation for being indecisive, romantic social butterflies, they are also fair-minded people who seek peace and justice. Minerva McGonagall was always hard yet fair in how she dealt with students. She was never opposed to docking points from her own Gryffindor house when it was warranted.

Libras tend to avoid direct confrontation and can lean towards being ive-aggressive, but it's these qualities of McGonagall's personality that make her one of the best wizards in the Harry Potter movies.

Scorpio - Sirius Black & Molly Weasley

Scorpio is a sign with a bad reputation. They can be secretive, moody, dark, and dangerous — all of which are qualities that apply to Sirius Black. When Sirius escaped from Azkaban he was driven by a need for vengeance against Peter Pettigrew. On the other hand, though, he was deeply loving and caring, offering Harry to come and live with him instead of the Dursleys.

Another Scorpio is Molly Weasley, who was also full of love and a desire to protect her family. Anyone who crossed her or her loved ones was met with her coldness and wrath, as Bellatrix found out during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Sagittarius - Rubeus Hagrid & Bill Weasley

Sagittariuses have an adventurous spirit and a philosophical soul. Both Weasleys under this sign, Bill and Charlie, were independent enough to work abroad, longing to broaden their horizons.

Another Sagittarius of the series, Rubeus Hagrid, also had a fondness for adventure in his caretaking of magical creatures. He loved to learn and teach, and desired to change everyone's perceptions of so-called "dangerous beasts."

Capricorn - Lord Voldemort & Severus Snape

Unless there is something in their chart to offset this influence, Capricorns are ambitious and cunning folk who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Severus Snape and Tom Riddle are headstrong traditionalists, prone to cynicism.

The dark side of Capricorn will see them overthrowing their allies if it means a win in the long term. Capricorns are absolutists with commitment, whether it be a cause, goal, or person.

Aquarius - Luna Lovegood & Arthur Weasley

Aquariuses are the eccentric dreamers, and Luna Lovegood is the perfect poster child for the sign. Unconventional and whimsical, she's also someone who can lack focus or become overly fixated on her ideas. Even so, she's one of Harry Potter's bravest Ravenclaws, always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

Arthur Weasley, another Aquarius, was shown to have a fascination with Muggle artifacts. He was enthusiastic and tried to rise above prejudices placed against him and his family. Arthur and Luna were true humanitarians, always treating others (regardless of status or species) as equals.

Pisces - Ron Weasley & Remus Lupin

Pisces is the final sign and as a result, they can take on the qualities of the entire zodiac. Pisces are total empaths, ruled by their emotions, and gifted with psychic-like intuition. Ron Weasley may have had his low moments, often letting his emotions override his judgment, but he was also undeniably generous and sociable and often made foreshadowing comments throughout the series.

The second Pisces is Remus Lupin, a man shrouded in mystery. Lupin has a huge heart but is also prone to melancholy and martyrdom, both of which are the dark side of Pisces. He does have the Pisces creative streak, though, finding innovative ways to teach his students how to defend themselves.
