Jamie Lee Curtis, who played final girl Laurie Strode in the Halloween series, teased a possible return to the horror franchise. After starring in the original Halloween movie in 1978, Curtis has gone on to appear in six more Halloween films. The most recent installment, 2022's Halloween Ends, served as a conclusion to David Gordon Green's reboot trilogy which began in 2018. However, over its almost 50-year history, the Halloween franchise has ended and then started again in a new form multiple times, so it wouldn't be surprising for another Halloween movie to be released sooner rather than later.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Curtis revealed she may be open to returning to the role. This comes as a surprise, as in the build-up to Halloween Ends, Curtis claimed it would be her last time playing Laurie Strode. Curtis teases another potential return to the Halloween franchise just two years after her last movie saying "never say never." Read Curtis' full quote below:

I have hung up my bell-bottoms and my pale blue button-down shirt, and I have relinquished [Laurie] to the ages with a warm, 'aloha,' and a thanks for all the years and memories. And yet, if I’ve learned anything in my 65 years on the planet, it’s never say never. Goodbye.

What Would Curtis Returning As Laurie Strode Mean For The Halloween Franchise?

Laurie Strode Killed Michael Myers In Halloween Ends

While Curtis has not appeared in every Halloween movie, she has appeared in many, and is considered by most to be the main character of the franchise, other than Michael Myers. Therefore, Curtis returning for another Halloween movie would be a huge deal for the series, but it would also raise many questions. During the climax of Halloween Ends, Laurie Strode has a final showdown with Michael Myers, which eventually ends in his death. This was an appropriate ending for Laurie's story, since she put an end to the evil being who began terrorizing her decades prior.

Since Halloween Ends was marketed as the end of the long-running horror franchise, it would make the most sense for the next Halloween movie to be another reboot. However, Curtis' return would complicate this. With Curtis involved, a new movie would never be able to distance itself from previous entries in the Halloween franchise. However, at the same time, it could be appealing for the studio to include Curtis in the next Halloween movie, since she is such a popular actor.

She Already Had A Proper Send-Off

While Curtis is a phenomenal actor and has contributed so much to the Halloween franchise from the very beginning, Halloween Ends probably gave Laurie Strode the best ending she will get. After Halloween Ends, the time seems right to take the franchise in a new direction. However, while Laurie doesn't have to appear in the next film, another Halloween reboot would not be the same without Michael Myers, so the bigger question is whether The Shape will return.

The Halloween franchise, created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, is one of the longest-running horror franchises in cinema. Debuting with Halloween (1978), it introduced audiences to Michael Myers, a masked killer terrorizing the fictional town of Haddonfield on Halloween night. Spanning over 13 films, including sequels, remakes, and reboots, the franchise centers around Michael's relentless pursuit of his original target, Laurie Strode. Halloween has become a cultural staple, inspiring the slasher genre and generating comics, novels, and video games, with a new television series currently in development.
