Warning: Spoilers for Green Lantern Corp #2 (2025) ahead!
The Green Lantern Corps exists in a volatile universe, with each different color of the Emotional Spectrum bestowing incredible powers upon those who can channel their energies. However, recent events have once again shaken up the status quo, proving why the Green light of Willpower is ultimately the strongest in the entire Emotional Spectrum.
This new understanding of how Green Lanterns interact with the other colors fills in a long-standing plot hole...
Morgan Hampton, Jeremy Adams, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, and Arif Prianto's Green Lantern Corps #2 (2025) picks up after the events of Green Lantern Corps Annual (2025) #1, with the Green Lantern Corps on a mission to help stabilize an Emotional Spectrum gone haywire. While on a mission with Hawkgirl to the ruins of Thanagar, John Stewart checks in on the newest Green Lantern recruit, the fan-favorite Razer.
"With the batteries gone and the understanding that all emotion can be bent by Will...it's far more taxing than I would have suspected," Razer its, confirming the effect the Green Light of Willpower has over the other colors in the spectrum.
The Green Light's Power Over The Emotional Spectrum Is Revealed
All Colors Affect Each Other In Different Ways
The Emotional Spectrum completely revolutionized Green Lantern lore when it first appeared in Geoff Johns' legendary 2004-2012 Green Lantern run. Previously, it was established that the Guardians of the Universe used their immense power to create a "green crystal" that gifted their agents, the Green Lanterns, with incredible power; however, a "yellow impurity" rendered their rings useless against anything colored yellow. The Emotional Spectrum recontextualized this as Green being the element of Willpower and Yellow that of Fear, with fear poisoning one's will and making the Green Lanterns less effective against it.
As Geoff Johns' work on Green Lantern continued, more colors of the Emotional Spectrum were revealed. The Blue Light of Hope, while relatively weak on its own, could massively boost a Green Lantern's power, as Hope and Will together are nearly unstoppable. By contrast, the Red Light of Rage could corrode and eat away at a Green Lantern's constructs, as Rage is all-consuming. Throughout all of this, Green was held as the neutral color in the Spectrum: other colors were shown by their effects on Green, not the other way around.

Thanks to Guy Gardner, the Green Lantern's Powers Just Got Way More Horrifying
A Green Lantern can create any construct they can imagine, which apparently includes horrific body modification as shown by Guy Gardner.
The Dark Side of Green Lantern's Light
Green Is Now Defined As The Color of Control
Now that readers understand how the Green Light of Will influences the other colors, much of Green Lantern history takes on a darker tone. The ability of Green Lanterns to bend other colors to their will explains why they’ve often been overseen by those hungry for power or control. For instance, the Guardians of the Universe, creators of the Corps, were notorious for their attempts to micromanage the known universe. This also sheds light on how United Planets Lord-Premiere Thaaros was able to use the Green Lanterns to seize control of much of the Emotional Spectrum.
This new understanding of how Green Lanterns interact with the other colors fills in a long-standing plot hole and continues to expand Green Lantern lore. As the Corps faces a universe spiraling out of control and contends with new colors emerging within the Emotional Spectrum, understanding how these colors relate to one another has never been more crucial. This long-awaited explanation solidifies the Green Lantern Corps as the most powerful wielders of the basic colors in the Emotional Spectrum.
