Summary

  • The Good Omens timeline is dense and absurd, spanning from the creation of the universe to the scheduled end of the world.
  • Crowley and Aziraphale have an unusual friendship built on a shared interest: saving the world. They break rules to prevent Armageddon.
  • Season 2 of Good Omens takes a more deliberate pace, exploring the past moments in the Crowley and Aziraphale timeline and delving into their growing love for each other.

Making sense of the Good Omens timeline is no easy feat, but putting the Crowley and Aziraphale timeline into chronological order might help make more sense of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's comedy of apocalyptic errors. From the beginning of time to the scheduled end of the world, the Good Omens timeline is as dense and absurd as Heaven and Hell's inevitable war to end all wars. In Good Omens, the friendship between the demon Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) is literally one for the ages. From the Garden of Eden in 4004 B.C. to the Apocalypse, they've built one of the universe's more unusual friendships.

Being on opposing sides but having the same goal has forced them into a peculiar position. Sure, they might've bonded purely on of proximity, but over the years, little by little, they discovered that their bond was built on something substantial. They have a shared interest: to save the world. They're forced to break some rules, though opposing God's "ineffable" plan isn't put into motion overnight. It takes time - or, in the case of Crowley and Aziraphale, a few thousand years. Good Omens bounces through time, but it all comes together in the end.

Good Omens Timeline In Season 2

Crowley and Aziraphale dressed an angel and demon in Good Omens
  • 2500 BC, The Land of Uz - There is a Companion of Owls set in The Land of Uz, and this is the Bible story about Job and the bet made between God and Satan about what the man would do if they took everything away from him. Satan believed he would reject God, while God believed that Job would remain faithful. At this moment, the Crowley and Aziraphale timeline sees them representing God and Satan in this bet.
  • 1827, Georgian/Regency Edinburgh - In this episode, the Crowley and Aziraphale timeline sees them in Edinburgh, where they end up involved in a body-snatching incident. This ties into the classical story of Frankenstein, which was written just nine years before this moment.
  • World War II, London - Just like the first season, where the Good Omens timeline saw Crowley and Aziraphale involved with the Nazis in World War II, the second season takes them back to a very different incident. Mr. Harmony and Mr. Glozier from that first season are zombies sent back from Hell to prove that Crowley and Aziraphale are working together.
  • Present-Day London - There is no mention of exactly when the events in the present day of the Good Omens timeline take place, although it was likely four years later. It is after the events of the first season, but most of it takes place in Aziraphale’s bookshop, although there are other local destinations, including Maggie's record shop and Nina's coffee shop.

While the Good Omens timeline in season 1 bounced around between the beginning of time and the apocalypse that never was, season 2 took a little more time going through the moments in the past in three episodes, while keeping a straight timeline in the present day. Seeing the Crowley and Aziraphale timeline at a slower and more deliberate pace really helped open Good Omens' season 2 themes of their growing love for one another. If there is a Good Omens season 3, expect more of these special moments from the past to show up, making this truly a series that encomes all time.
