As has been mentioned in comments in the Reddit post, this seems like an OST dedicated to a farewell, possibly to the Traveler’s “little buddy.” So far, the World Quests in Natlan have seen the Traveler and Paimon accompanied by their Saurian companion, and there is reason to believe that the Version 5.5 World Quests may be a farewell to them – especially with the leaked soundtrack’s title and its melancholic theme, a departure from Genshin Impact’s more energetic and vibrant musical themes so far.

If the leak proves to be true, it could be an ominous hint that the Traveler will have to say goodbye to their Saurian companion – at least during the World Quests they have accompanied the protagonist on so far. This does not necessarily mean that the creature will be killed off, but they could leave for any number of reasons based on what occurs during the rumored World Quests. While a lot of the comments speculate on the farewell to the Saurian companion, there are other possibilities: Waxaklahun Ubah Kan in Genshin Impact.

The Sage of the Stolen Flame is an important figure in Natlan’s history, but a render of their character model – their shadow, to be more specific – indicates that they will appear in some form during the rumored World Quests. As such, players may witness their journey and, possibly, their end during the quests, and the leaked soundtrack may be the theme of their definitive departure. Because the OST’s title is allegedly A Distant Farewell, this could very well be the character to which the leaked musical theme in Genshin Impact 5.5 refers.

Mare Jivari May Still Be Added In The Future

Of course, this could be a way of making players say goodbye to the larger story quests set in Natlan, too. The main story arc, represented by the Archon Quests in Natlan, has come to a conclusion with Version 5.3 and all other main areas in Natlan have already been explored. This is likely the last large piece of content in the Nation of Pyro for a while – but players are expected to return to Natlan in the future with the implementation of Mare Jivari in Genshin Impact.

Even though the most important story arcs are allegedly wrapping up with Version 5.5, Mare Jivari is an important place in Natlan that HoYoverse may visit with future updates – especially with the rumors that we are not yet going to Snezhnaya and, instead, spending the year exploring Teyvat areas that have been mentioned by name, such as Mount Esus and Dornman Port. Mare Jivari could be among the developer’s plans for Genshin Impact’s next year, so we may not bid farewell to Natlan permanently, but, instead, a character.
