A recent Anya Taylor-Joy interview (via Split in the mid-2010s.

Anya Taylor-Joy often performs in horror movies, but she speaks with particular reverence regarding her experience working on Split with M. Night Shyamalan. In her interview with the BBC, Taylor-Joy recalls a moment in which Shyamalan offered her advice: "'I've seen you cry and these are your own tears. Don't be selfish. Give the character their own tears.' And that completely changed the way that I acted forever." She goes on to explain how it was then that she was able to see acting aside from "mining yourself for experiences." Now, she feels that one should create a living character with their own emotions, likening the experience of character to a person that one must "take care of." These words provide a whole new perspective with which to view her performances and characters.

How Furiosa Is Different From Previous Anya Taylor-Joy Roles

Many of Taylor-Joy's roles have existed in worlds similar to our own (albeit in extraordinary circumstances). However, Furiosa and Mad Max exist in the apocalypse, a hellish landscape where people must kill and compete just to get basic resources and survive. Furiosa offers Anya Taylor-Joy the opportunity to create a character different from anything she's done in her career so far. Her interview with the BBC reveals that she is also the perfect candidate for the role, having adopted the perspective that she must become a character rather than trying to fit into one.

Furiosa's Stunts Also Suggest A Perfect Movie Casting

A War Boy hangs off a moving muscle car in Mad Max: Fury Road.

One of the things that makes Anya Taylor-Joy's appearance as Furiosa so exciting is the fact that - even without a driver's license - the 26-year-old actress did her own stunt driving for the movie. Taylor-Joy jokingly noted that "if a driving instructor gets in a car with me, all I know how to do is crazy stunt driving." The Furiosa of Mad Max: Fury Road (Charlize Theron) was involved, without a doubt, in incredibly thrilling moments of stunts and fighting.

The movie Furiosa, being a prequel, will follow the character's backstory, as she's snatched away from her home, confronted by biker gangs, and acquainted with Immortan Joe before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road. It's not unreasonable to expect that this follow-up will contain even more impressive displays of action and stunt work.
