The first official trailer for the Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday reunites viewers with the Coleman family as Anna (Lindsay Lohan) prepares for her wedding, 22 years after she and her mother swapped bodies and learned to walk a mile in each other's shoes. History likes to repeat itself, though, as this time, it's Anna's daughter who isn't happy about her mother getting married, and she and her soon-to-be stepsister hatch a plan to break their parents up.
The Freakier Friday trailer sets the scene, as Anna's wedding is only a week away. Her fiancé, Eric (Manny Jacinto), has a daughter of his own, but their kids aren't getting along. What better way to come to an understanding than to be forced into a four-person body swap? The girls vow to use their newfound status as "adults" to stop the nuptials, and the only surefire way to break up a relationship is by reuniting your mother with her first love. Yes, Chad Michael Murray is reprising his role, too. Check out the trailer below:
What This Means For Freakier Friday
The Coleman Women's Lives Just Got A Lot More Complicated
If you thought a two-person body swap was complicated, try a four-person body swap. Eric's daughter, Lily (Sophia Hammons), ends up in Tess' (Jamie Lee Curtis) body, while Anna's daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), swaps with her mother. The stakes are certainly higher this time around. Yes, Anna's getting married, just like her mother was when she was a teenager, but there's one major difference: Anna never had another accomplice. Harper and Lily could do some real damage while trapped in Anna and Tess' bodies, provided they can get their act together.
Our Take On The Freakier Friday Trailer
This Is Shaping Up To Be A Great Legacy Sequel
Freakier Friday genuinely seems to have captured the spirit of the first film. One of the best things about the original Freaky Friday was watching Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan embody their characters' strange new dynamic; now, Freakier Friday is taking that one step further. Curtis' transformation in the trailer as Lily realizes what's happened is, as expected, hilarious. I'm excited to see Lohan and Curtis play these scheming teenagers before they connect with Anna's life on a deeper level, and Butter and Hammons will have a real chance of showing off their comedic chops, too.
Freakier Friday's fun and ridiculous premise is perfect for a summer afternoon trip to the cinema.
It's also great to see Freakier Friday get a cinematic release. While other recent Disney legacy sequels, like Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted, were brought straight to Disney+, Freakier Friday's fun and ridiculous premise is perfect for a summer afternoon trip to the cinema. If it does well, who knows? I'd love to see a return of mid-budget comedies in theaters. If Freakier Friday is as fun as it looks in the trailer, we're all in for a good time.
