Rebecca Yarros' Amazon's Fourth Wing TV series was first announced in October 2023, just ahead of Iron Flame's release, and since then, fans have been eager for news of the project.

However, at the Onyx Storm midnight release party held in Los Angeles, Rebecca Yarros herself was in attendance and was able to give a glimpse into the Amazon project's production. When asked if there was anything she could share about the romantasy TV series adaptation, Yarros told fans she's now read two versions of the script and stated: "I kicked my feet the entire time" (via E! Online). Yarros' excitement for the Empyrean Series' Amazon adaptation is especially promising, and her love for the script indicates the show will stay faithful to the books.

In October 2023, Amazon MGM Studios optioned the rights to Yarros' Fourth Wing book series, with Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society company set to produce. This was huge news for fans of Yarros' bestselling series, and for the author herself, as the first book was published only six months prior. While other romantasy adaptations have stalled in the early stages of production, Fourth Wing seems to be moving along quite smoothly, as it was also announced in July 2024 that Moira Walley-Beckett (Breaking Bad, Anne with an E) had been tapped as showrunner of the series.

"Moira's done such an amazing job capturing everyone's voice and the dialogue that you guys love and just the energy and spirit of the book [...] I could not be any happier."

Yarros' comments at the Onyx Storm release party mark the first major update since Walley-Beckett's appointment, and it seems she's already developed two versions of the script in that short time. Having read both versions, Yarros gushed to her fans about how excited she was, stating Moira has done an amazing job adapting each character and including dialogue from the books that fans love. While there have not been any Fourth Wing casting updates, Yarros' comments on the script indicate that the TV series is getting even closer to becoming a reality.

The Fourth Wing Show Will Likely Be Faithful To The Books

Several fantasy adaptations have been either delayed or canceled in the last few years, which has been a huge cause for concern regarding the Fourth Wing show. However, Yarros' latest comments instead indicate Amazon is ramping up production, and the fate of the Fourth Wing show now seems more hopeful than ever. Knowing multiple scripts are in existence, one can assume development is now reaching its peak, and Amazon is heading towards the next steps regarding production — including casting and setting a filming schedule.

During her interview at the Onyx Storm release party, Yarros also mentioned how scared she was to hand Fourth Wing over and relinquish control of what plot points are deemed most important. As with any film or TV adaptation, there are aspects of the novel that will inevitably change to fit into an on-screen format. However, Yarros' expressed love towards the script reassures fans, suggesting the adaptation will likely be quite faithful to the books in the Empyrean Series.
