Malevolent (2018) - 4.8
Stream On Netflix
Of the three horror films she's done so far, Malevolent is clearly the most lackluster of Pugh's career, according to IMDb.
The film tracks cunning siblings Jack (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) and Angela (Pugh), who run a fake ghost-hunting business by tricking grievous families into thinking they can communicate the spirits of departed loved ones. But when the two accept a case involving genuine evil, the siblings get way more than they bargained for. Predictable and nonthreatening at best.
The Falling (2014) - 5.4
Stream On Tubi
As alluded to above, Pugh made her screen debut in Carol Morley's mysterious and deeply unnerving indie horror flick The Falling, a movie that garnered more love from critics than general IMDb voters.
Set in a stern British boarding school for girls in 1969, the horror picks up when a cryptic wave of mass faintings strikes the countryside. The incident seems to stem from a freak accident at school involving creepy besties, Abbie (Pugh) and Lydia (Maisie Williams), who may or may not harbor ill intent. It's a solid debut performance!
King Lear (2018) - 6.1
Stream On Prime Video
2018 has been the busiest year of Pugh's young career so far. In that calendar year, she acted in four wildly disparate feature films and one mildly acclaimed miniseries (The Little Drummer Girl).
One of the four films included the Amazon Prime original, King Lear. The TV movie boasted the A-list likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson in prominent roles, among several others, with Pugh lending a memorable turn as Cordelia. The plot of the project concerns the aging King transferring power to his corrupt and unscrupulous daughters, Cordelia among them.
Don't Worry Darling (2022) - 6.2
Stream On HBO Max
2022's Don't Worry Darling is a psychological drama with Florence Pugh starring as Alice, a woman living an idyllic life in a 1950s neighborhood called The Victory Project. However, she soon learns that this society might not be as perfect as she thought. When she learns her husband Jack (Harry Styles) might have involved them in something dangerous, she looks for a way out.
The movie polarized audiences thanks to its twist at the end. However, this forced both Pugh and the lesser experienced Styles to turn in some impressive performances as people living in a fantasy world. Even critics who didn't like Don't Worry Darling's ending praised Pugh's performance of a woman wanting to stand up for herself.
The Commuter (2018) - 6.3
Stream On Prime Video & Epix
The annual Liam Neeson/Jaume Collet-Serra action collaboration of 2018 materialized as The Commuter, a thrilling whodunit set on a busy cosmopolitan train.
When former cop Mike McCauley (Neeson) is aboard his daily commuter train, he is approached and given a chance to earn $100,000 by identifying the mysterious enger named "Prynne." If Mike fails to do so, he could instantly lose his life. Aboard the train is Gwen (Pugh), an innocent bystander who may or may not have much of a role in the complex plot line.
Black Widow (2021) - 6.7
Stream On Disney+
Forence Pugh got her start in the MCU in Black Widow. In the movie, she starred as Yelena Belova, a member of the Black Widow team in the Soviet Union. Raised as the "sister" of the Avengers' Black Widow, Yelena ended up left alone when they had to escape America when their covers were blown.
While the movie belonged to Black Widow, Pugh stole The Thunderbolts.
Lady Macbeth (2016) - 6.8
Stream On Roku & Hoopla
Pugh turned heads and won hearts in the title role of Lady Macbeth, proving that she is a formidable leading lady and legitimate budding movie star. As a result, Pugh earned a British Independent Film Award for Best Actress and was nominated for Best Breakout Performance by the Alliance of Women Film Journalists.
The strong character portrait follows Katherine (Pugh), an unhappily married woman to a much older man who wants out of the stale and oppressive relationship. When Katherine strikes up a romance with a young estate worker, she invites a wealth of dramatic infighting en route to fulfilling her strongest desires.
The Wonder (2022) - 6.8
Stream On Netflix
Netflix's The Wonder is a movie with Florence Pugh that premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in September 2022. It hit theaters in November and finally arrived on Netflix on November 16, 2022. For fans on IMDb who have seen it, the movie has a strong rating.
The story follows a rural village in Ireland in 1862 that becomes famous thanks to a young girl living there who has not eaten in months. However, while this starving child is what made them famous, she is also what will tear them apart. Once again, Pugh's performance was praised by critics, eclipsing the film as a whole.
Outlaw King (2018) - 6.9
Stream On Netflix
In what can be construed as a weaker relative of Braveheart, Outlaw King tells the sweeping saga of a Scottish warrior overcoming insurmountable odds to achieve freedom. In the immortal words of William Wallace, "it's all for nothing if you don't have freedom."
Set in the 14th century, the film charts the rise of Robert "The Outlaw King" Bruce (Chris Pine), a dogged warrior in Scotland dedicated to thwarting the advances of the overwhelming English army. Pugh is way down the call-sheet as Elizabeth Burgh, wife of Richard de Burgh (Jonny Phillips), the Earl of Ulster.
Fighting With My Family (2019) - 7.1
Rent On Apple TV
According to IMDb, Pugh's movies get better with each successive release year up until 2019. As such, Pugh's top-three films were all released in 2019.
In the semiautobiographical comedy Fighting With My Family, the life and career of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are explored with heartfelt pathos. Pugh is given one the juiciest roles of her young career as Saraya Knight, aka Paige, a young female wrestler who rises to prominence then falls on her face, then fights her way back up the competitive ladder.
