The trailer opens with Wahlberg's pilot mentioning that he has never flown a U.S. Marshal before. The scene then transitions to a glimpse of the snowy mountains of Alaska, hinting at the tumultuous environment that the crew will face. As the Air Marshal becomes suspicious of the blood that is on the pilot's neck and shirt, it is revealed that Wahlberg's character is actually a hitman. As the Marshal attempts to communicate this twist with those on the ground, she is tasked with trying to fly the plane as she puts Wahlberg's character in chains.

Flight Risk Could Be A Turning Point For Both Wahlberg And Gibson

Wahlberg Has Faced Negative Reviews Recently, While Gibson Is A Controversial Figure

Topher Grace as a fugitive looking suspiciously to the side in the movie Flight Risk

The Flight Risk trailer has a tongue-in-cheek quality to it, as the scene is set to a slowed down cover of the Talking Heads song "Psycho Killer." As the plane almost crashes and spirals through the wilderness, Wahlberg's character chides, "Y'all need a pilot?" While Flight Risk is certainly going for a high-octane level of drama, these moments in the trailer suggest that there could be a degree of dark humor to the film. Such a choice would ease up some of the tension in this character drama.

Flight Risk sits at an interesting place in Wahlberg's career, as the actor has not had a great track record of late. Since 2020, only one movie starring Wahlberg has received a fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Many of those negative reviews have arisen from his action movies specifically, which does not bode well for a film like Flight Risk. Wahlberg has another action movie coming out soon, a spy thriller called The Union, so there are plenty of opportunities for positive reviews.

Gibson is also a highly-controversial figure, as past commentary he has made has saddled him with accusations of anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia, and more bigotry. Despite these ongoing controversies, the strength of Gibson's work has allowed the actor-director to maintain some level of respect. His most recent directorial feature was Hacksaw Ridge back in 2016, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Director. The ongoing respect for Gibson's creative work could continue if Flight Risk is a hit.
