The Flash of China has finally said what she and every other speedster is thinking about any challenges to their speeds. A friendly race with Super-Man reveals why it's simply pointless to bother racing anyone lucky enough to be a part of the Flash Family.
The DC Universe has a number of speedsters that all share the Flash mantle. Whether it's Jay Garrick, Wally West, Avery Ho, or Barry Allen, all of them have seen the DCU as only a speedster can: in a rapid blur going faster than the speed of light. And as of the Flash Family, many of them have had their experiences in the classic plot point competing in a race against Superman. It's a thrilling prospect, and fun for fans to see if the Kryptonian hero can actually keep up with those connected to the Speed Force. But no matter how many races there have been, fans rarely get a definitive answer.
But Avery Ho, the Justice League of China's Flash is putting an end to any debate between the Scarlet Speedsters and the Men of Steel. In New Super-Man #11 by Gene Luen Yang and Billy Tan, Kong Kenan, the Super-Man of China just activated his ability to achieve super speed. Though his teammates implore him to study his new powers first, Kenan immediately challenges Avery to a race around China. Along the way, the two tease each other about their powers, certain that they are the fastest, when Kenan's speed appears to malfunction and can't keep from vibrating. However, it's only a trick so Super-Man can get to the Great Wall first. But all the tricks in the world don't stop Avery from reaching their destination first, where she explains no one can beat Flashes when it comes to running.
No Superman Can Beat The Flash's 'Thing'
The Flash isn’t wrong. Superman and those who share his set of powers may have a number of cool tricks they can pull off, but a speedster excels in one thing and one thing only: running. Getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible is their whole state of being. And even though speedsters have used their speed and electricity generation to mimic other powers, running is first and foremost their thing. So in a race between a Flash and a Superman, it really should never be close.
Of course, there’s always an entertaining aspect to seeing Flash and Superman race. They’re pretty much the only two heroes that can give one another a run for their money. But the idea of a race between the two has occurred so often and so frequently that there’s really not much new ground to cover. Avery’s comment is a good reminder that while Superman and Super-Man may be powerful, they can’t beat any Flash when their powers are specifically geared towards running. Hopefully the Flash of China’s words will close the book on any arguments when it comes to whom the fastest hero is.
