ManyThree Houses a much different experience of the story than they previously knew.
With many Fire Emblem fans coming to this game without having played previous Warriors crossovers, they may have some difficulty adjusting to new gameplay. Here are the top 10 ways in the game to survive so that fans can reach the conclusion of the game they desire.
Dodge
Sometimes it can be easy to want to flare a blade or an axe at an opponent ceaselessly. But doing this will open the player up to lots of punishment.
One of the ways to avoid this is to time dodges, saving a player from a brutal blow or combo. Some attacks from enemies even give players more of a warning by highlighting the field red for the range of the attack. These are usually far more powerful attacks as well, so it's best to try and get out of the way as quickly as possible.
Block
Another method to protect oneself from too much damage is blocking or shielding. Something absent from a typical turn-based Fire Emblem game.
Some characters such as Edelgard have a much more proficient way of blocking as they use their shields, but every character can block. Effectively using blocks can nullify an attack that may have been intended to send a player to their grave. Using dodges and blocking in tandem can be an effective strategy for players to bide their time until they see an opening.
Weapon Advantage
One of the key components from one of the best strategy games of Fire Emblem is the recurring advantages and disadvantages on the field of battle. For example, having a sword wielder go up against a lance wielder is going to increase the difficulty. Bows are great against winged units and axes are great against heavily armored characters.
There are multiple advantages and disadvantages to examine and all of them should be noted or learned for the best efficiency. If it becomes a bit too hectic to memorize what is good against what isn't, there are easy markings that can be found on the map with blue arrows pointing up and red arrows pointing down. The more blue arrows the more of an advantage the player has, the more red the further disadvantage.
Orders
This is one of the most effective strategies to employ in the game and those familiar with Fire Emblem games will enjoy giving characters a task such as this.
Ordering a character to take down another section of the quest or to seize a territory helps make the overall mission easier and allows players to proficiently utilize all of the characters they have on the map. This is a great way to also check out those weapon advantages and to only send units who will take the battle down easier and more quickly to those sections.
Combat Arts and Magic
Rather than magic being a weapon wielded, it's actually a combat art (though this isn't unusual for Fire Emblem: Three Houses). Combat arts are one of the most helpful aspects of the game that allow for more powerful attacks to throw at the enemies.
Each combat art has a number next to them which takes a chunk out of the durability listed on a weapon. So of course, once that durability is reached players will find they won't be able to use any more combat arts unless it's restored. More combat arts can be unlocked throughout the game as characters level up and the ones players use can also get leveled up by increasing their effects.
Weapons
The weapon players choose to wield is vital and there aren't many options in the early part of the game.
It's recommended to use the house leaders and Shez when playing on most maps, especially if players want the easiest experience. The house leaders obtain some of the most powerful weapons in the first chapter that has high durability allowing them to use combat arts many times over. To obtain more weapons, simply progress in the story and side-missions and/or forge new weapons.
Warrior Special
Combat arts are great, but nothing is more powerful than the warrior special that allows players to fire an incredibly powerful attack.
These warrior specials require a golden bar to get filled that can either be obtained from pots or from stronger enemies. There is no limit to how many times this attack can be used, it's just a matter of gathering the necessary energy for it. Unleashing this attack on a boss whose life is half full will most likely take them down for good. Even switching between allies and using each of their warrior specials can be an effective strategy.
Pots
Sometimes players tend to ignore the pots located on the map, especially green ones. Green ones, of course, refill a player's health. So it is fine to avoid them until they're needed.
But, players should still pay attention to all of the pots located on the map and what territories they lie in. There are pots of gold, as well as energy to charge warrior specials. Players who might find themselves driven into a corner may need a little bit of a push to defeat an enemy. There may be a chance there's a pot in the room that can help them turn the tide.
Adjutants
Having another character fight by the controlled player's unit may seem like a bit of a double-edged sword, but it does provide a larger powerhouse. This is best utilized by characters who have good with each other which can be increased in combat and in the return of the JRPG school-style with tasks and training.
It's actually a great tactic to use adjutants and not just for combat, but also to more quickly max out the between two characters. This in turn will make them even more effective to fight together. Adjutants are great against stronger foes and even near the end of a mission against bosses. If a player feels as if they're not getting as much range on the map as they want then they can simply disband and move the units separately again.
Vulnerary
The most essential way to survive in Three Hopes is to keep a character's health from dropping to zero. To avoid dying, make sure to constantly heal characters by using vulneraries, which are located alongside combat arts.
Using a vulnerary isn't the only way to keep from dying as mages (and some other characters) can learn the magic combat art "Heal" and its upgrades. Any form of healing becomes essential in Three Hopes and it's important to that players can't simply run past an ally to heal them like in previous Warriors games. It has to be manually done.
