With the recent storm of problems hitting Twitter after Elon Musk acquired it, some fans claim to believe that FFXIV Is Even Better Once The Endwalker Hype Settles Down
FFXIV's Meteion Shares Surprising Similarities With Twitter
The idea of Final Fantasy XIV predicting Twitter's possible fate is quickly becoming a meme, with community stating that the icon for Twitter is in fact Meteion herself, come to destroy the world, or in this case, the site a large majority of people around the world use. Even though Elon Musk did not create Twitter, he still serves as an easy comparison to Meteion's creator Hermes. Endwalker's story deals with heavy existential themes, and considering the potential ramifications of Twitter going offline, such themes might be more relevant to modern times than the game's writers intended.
The possibility of Twitter shutting down or, more likely, simply becoming unusable due to increased confusion, instability, and errors, is reminiscent of what Meteion does to the setting of Final Fantasy XIV in the story. Using Dynamis magic, Meteion tries to distort the world and cause the apocalypse before the player and their companions figure out how to reverse it. They manage to redeem Meteion as well, which might hint at a happy ending for Twitter if the jokes comparing it to FFXIV prove even more apt. Endwalker is considered one of the best expansions for FFXIV, but it is of course doubtful that the game's writers intended it to predict what's happening to Twitter.
The idea that Elon Musk has turned the site into a self-destructing entity is refreshingly familiar for many FFXIV fans. It is too early to tell whether Twitter will be saved through the age of time or by someone who knows how to fix the problems Musk creates, but that won't stop the Final Fantasy XIV community from making it a meme that could possibly take Twitter by storm and make Elon Musk a bigger villain than many already believe he is.
