The raunchy animated comedy Family Guy came back for its landmark 23rd season in 2025, and now Seth MacFarlane's creation will get 24th season too. Debuting all the way back in 1999, Family Guy follows the day-to-day debauchery of the Griffin family of the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island, and is an over-the-top spoof of conventional sitcom tropes. In league with other decade-spanning adult cartoons like The Simpsons and South Park, Family Guy set itself apart with its signature cut-away gags and willingness to take things to their absolute limit, no matter how controversial.
Though Seth MacFarlane has gone on to helm a myriad of other successful projects, Family Guy has taken its place as a cultural institution. Except for its nearly two-year cancelation after season 3, the Griffins have been a consistent TV staple even as decades continue to tick by. Even if the question of the show's inevitable ending has been brought up more frequently since it ed the 20-year mark, MacFarlane and the rest of the Family Guy cast show no signs of stopping anytime soon. This prompted Fox to renew the show for not just one more season, but four.

Fox Renews Family Guy For 4 More Seasons
The future of the show was never really in any doubt, but the latest news finds Fox renewing Family Guy for four additional seasons. Not only is season 24 confirmed, but the latest renewal means seasons 25, 26, and 27 are coming too. This will push Family Guy into the 2028-2029 TV season, and will also mark three decades since the series debuted in 1999. This same renewal order was given to The Simpsons, American Dad!, and Bob's Burgers, and shows that Fox's animation slate is going to stay stable for the remainder of the decade.
American Dad! is returning to Fox for the first time in over 10 years.
Family Guy Season 24 Is Confirmed
The Show Is Renewed Through Season 27
Illustrating Fox's supreme confidence in the show, the network renewed Family Guy for four additional seasons during its season 23 run.
Discounting the early 2000s cancelation after season 3, Family Guy has been one of the most consistent forces on the small screen, and that isn't changing after season 23. Illustrating Fox's supreme confidence in the show, the network renewed Family Guy for four additional seasons during its season 23 run. This means the Griffins are sticking around through season 27 and will continue into the 2028-2029 season. The news also comes with the caveat that the seasons have been shortened to 15 episodes from now on.
Creator Seth MacFarlane sees no reason to ever end Family Guy (via Screen Rant), and he hinges the show's future on fan reception. Confessing that there was a time he was considering ending the series, he now notes that the show has hit it's "escape velocity" and that he can end it whenever people don't want to see it anymore.
Read MacFarlane's full comments here:
At this point, I don’t see a good reason to stop. People still love it. It makes people happy and it funds some good causes. It’s a lot of extraneous cash that you can donate to Rainforest Trust and you can still go out to dinner that night. There was a time when I thought, it’s time to wrap it up.
At this point, we’ve reached escape velocity. I don’t know that there’s any reason to stop at this point unless people get sick of it. Unless the numbers show that people just are, “Eh, we don’t care about ‘Family Guy’ anymore.” But that hasn’t happened yet. Also, I don't watch the show so if anyone wants to take another look at this article for anything I missed that would be great.
Family Guy season 23 began in earnest on February 16, 2025.
Family Guy Season 24 Cast Details
Expect The Familiar Voice Cast To Return Again
Unlike other programs which are hard to speculate about, the cast of Family Guy has been mostly the same since the series debuted. Though the role of Meg was recast after season 1, the main cast has otherwise remained intact for nearly 25 years. This means that Seth MacFarlane will return to voice the roles of Peter, Brian, Stewie, and Quagmire, and he'll undoubtedly lend his voice to a few one-off characters too. Alex Borstein plays the role of Peter's long-suffering wife, Lois, and Seth Green is Peter and Lois' teen son, Chris.

Family Guy Season 1 Had A Different Meg: Why Lacey Chabert Quit
Lacey Chabert voiced Meg Griffin during the first season of Family Guy before being replaced by Mila Kunis. Here's why she decided to leave the show.
Mila Kunis took over the role of Meg Griffin after Lacey Chabert departed the show after season 2, and she'll be back to play the downtrodden daughter of the Griffin family. Arif Zahir assumed the role of Peter's close friend, Cleveland Brown, starting with season 20, and Patrick Warburton plays Joe Swanson. Guest stars are also expected in season 24 as well, but it's impossible to guess who that will be until more details are available.
The cast of Family Guy season 24 will likely include:

Family Guy Season 24 Story Details
Anything Can Happen In Season 24
If the plot of Family Guy season 24 could be predicted, it would rob the series of its off-the-wall humor. As such, there's no telling what the individual episodes will be about, and there is almost no carryover from episode-to-episode. Instead, each installment follows the Griffin clan as they go on some strange and raunchy adventure with plenty of cut-away gags and pop culture references.
