As one of the biggest and most popular superheroes, it's no secret that Spider-Man has a massive media presence in movies and television shows. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962, it wasn't long before Marvel's iconic Webslinger jumped from the comics to animation, live-action television and eventually the big-screen. Now, there are all kinds of different versions of Spider-Man for fans to enjoy beyond the page.
One of the best things about Spider-Man is that "anyone can wear the mask." As such, it's pretty remarkable to see just how many versions of Spider-Man can be seen across various forms of media, whether it's the MCU's Spider-Man, alternate takes on Peter Parker in animation, or completely different variants of the Wallcrawler from wildly different timelines. Keeping that in mind, here is every major version of Spider-Man that has appeared in television and movies.
20 Tobey Maguire
The First Big Blockbuster Spider-Man
Kicking off Spider-Man's career as a major blockbuster superhero, Tobey Maguire was the first actor to play the Webslinger on the big screen with 2002's Spider-Man, directed by Sam Raimi. Maguire's Spider-Man received an entire trilogy, while also having a more recent appearance in the MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home.
19 Andrew Garfield
The Amazing Spider-Man
The second major movie Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield was the star of Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While Garfield unfortunately didn't get a full trilogy, he was also featured alongside Maguire in the MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home and its multiversal narrative.
18 Tom Holland
The MCU's Webslinger
First appearing in the MCU's Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland is the current major movie Spider-Man, having received his own trilogy, which concluded with Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. Holland's Wallcrawler also made an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the start of a new MCU trilogy next year in 2026 (along with additional Avengers appearances).
17 Miles Morales' Spider-Man
(Spider-Verse)
Sony Pictures also has an ongoing trilogy of animated Spider-Verse films starring Shamiek Moore as the Spider-Man from Earth-1610. Featuring multiple Spider-Man variants from across the multiverse, the Spider-Verse is expected to conclude with the Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse releasing in 2027.
16 Spider-Man Noir
(2026)
Played by Nicolas Cage, Spider-Man Noir is a version of Spider-Man from a 1930s pre-WWII timeline where Spider-Man is more of a detective. A live-action Spider-Noir series from Amazon will be released in 2026, though Cage previously voiced the character in the animated Spider-Verse movies.
15 Madame Web's Peter Parker
(2024)
Technically, a version of Spider-Man appears in Sony's widely panned Madame Web. At the very end of the movie, a version of Peter Parker is born to Richard and Mary Parker.
14 Spider-Man Japan
(Takuya Yamashiro)
In 1978, Japan had its very own live-action Spider-Man series, albeit one that was very loosely based on the comic-book character. Real name Takuya Yamashiro, this version of Spider-Man had his very own giant robot named Leopardon, making the Spider-Man series a direct narrative precursor to Power Rangers. In the show, Yamashiro was originally a motocross racer, and had some unique powers, including X-ray vision and the ability to communicate with spiders.
13 Electric Company Spider-Man
(1971)
In the early 70s, one of the very first live-action Spider-Men was played by Danny Seagren in the children's show The Electric Company. The show had an ongoing sketch known as "Super Spidey Stories" which saw Spider-Man taking down bad guys while only speaking via word balloons, to help kids with their reading skills.
12 The Amazing Spider-Man
(1977)
CBS would eventually produce the short-lived series The Amazing Spider-Man, a live-action series starring Nicholas Hammond as the Wallcrawler. The show ran for two seasons, but was ultimately canceled, largely due to its decreasing ratings and the show being highly criticized for its deviations from the original comics.
11 Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends
(1981)
1981 saw the release of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, an animated series that saw Spider-Man ing forces with Firestar and Iceman. The show ran for 3 seasons, though it ultimately inspired a new series decades later.
