The Best Anime Streaming on Netflix

Mob Psycho 100

Mob Psycho 100 is an incredible anime series that only just recently found its way on to Netflix. Adapted from a manga series by the same creative genius behind One-Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100 follows a young boy named Mob who suppresses his emotions so as not to harm anyone with his incredible psychic powers. Together with his conman boss, Reigen, Mob uses his powers to exorcise evil spirits and battle the looming threat of other psychics who are much less responsible with their powers.

Mob Psycho 100 is one of the best anime series of all time, with gorgeous animation, a lovable cast of characters, and a deeply heartfelt story. Though the series is filled with laugh-out-loud comedy, its serious moments are just as effective as anything featured in far darker anime.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is a multimedia franchise that began as a manga series and follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as led by Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy, an enthusiastic pirate with a thirst for adventure, is afflicted by a mysterious curse that gives him various powers he uses to protect himself and his friends. The manga eventually gave way to the anime series, with the two being some of history's longest-running anime and manga series. Along with over fifty video games made over the years, the series entered the live-action world with Netflix's 2023 adaptation.

Pluto

Deep and filled with political intrigue, fans of old-school science fiction will find quite a lot to like about Pluto. The series follows a group of incredibly powerful robots as they're murdered one by one. The mystery of what kind of being would be capable of killing such strong robots leads to uncovering a global conspiracy that has massive implications for the fate of humanity and robot-kind alike.

Osamu Tezuka's original Astro Boy was already ripe with themes about the ramifications of war, and the original Pluto manga by Naoki Urasaw and Takashi Nagasaki only enhanced those themes. The anime captures what made the manga brilliant in such a fantastic way that it's truly a sight to behold.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

While Pluto might be perfect for fans of classic science-fiction, any fan of the genre's grungier side would be doing a disservice to themselves by not watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Studio Trigger has one of the most distinctive styles in modern anime, and that's on full display in Edgerunners. The series is about a young man named David who is motivated by a tragedy to become an Edgerunner, essentially a cyberpunk mercenary. While the Cyberpunk 2077 video game was met with divisive reviews, the same can't be said for Edgerunners as it's regarded as a new classic.

Delicious in Dungeon

Fans of fantasy also have quite a lot of choices available to them on Netflix, but few fantasy anime stand out like the recent Delicious in Dungeon. The series is about a group of adventurers who make their way through a dungeon by eating the monsters and enemies they slay. The result is always funny as the adventurers Laios, Marcille, Chilchuk, and Senshi find increasingly absurd methods of cooking their kill.

What makes Delicious in Dungeon stand out is its commitment to being a real fantasy anime. Far from another RPG inspired fantasy series that doesn't make sense outside of its game reference point, Delicious in Dungeon's world is well-thought-out and is all internally cohesive in a way that makes it clear the series cares about its world-building.
