According to EA, the company has analyzed years worth of game film to determine their power rankings for this new game. That means, while some teams may come as a surprise to fans based on the team’s performance last year, it’s hard to say how far back EA went when crunching numbers for their rankings.

10 Clemson Is A Bit Of A Surprise Inclusion

While Clemson didn’t do terribly in the 2023-24 season, fans may still be a little surprised to see it crack the top 10 on EA’s rankings for College Football 25. When looking across the team’s stats for offensive metrics like ing yards, rushing yards, and scoring, Clemson doesn’t crack the top 40 in any metric from last year’s stats. This will likely leave players wondering why EA is considering this one of the top 10 offenses in college football.

One explanation may be the team’s running back Phil Mafah, who Yahoo! Sports calls “one of the best running backs in the country." It has also been speculated that incoming Freshman Bryant Wesco could help Clemson step up their ing game. EA also says they are considering multiple years’ worth of information. Since Clemson was undefeated in the 2022-23 season in their conference, this could have also helped boost their numbers.

9 Missouri Had A Good Record And Decent Stats Across The Board

However, a good defense can win a game just as much as a good offense, so EA likely also took a look at Missouri’s offensive stats to help determine their overall score. While not the best in either ing or rushing yards, they did put up solid numbers in both last year, proving they could be a well-rounded team. They were also one of the top 30 scoring teams in 2023-24.

In of returning players for the season, Missouri still has their QB, Brady Cook, who is ranked 18th overall. They also have a solid group of receivers. If EA is looking back a few years, Missouri may also have scored some extra points thanks to their former RB Cody Schrader, who led the SEC in rushing during his final season in 2023.

8 Colorado Makes The Cut Despite A Disappointing Last Season

Last season, Colorado had the worst record in the Pac-12. It also didn’t crack the top 50 in either rushing or scoring. However, despite this and having one of the worst Offensive Lines in of sacks surrendered, Colorado did have one thing going for them last season. Quarterback Sheuder Sanders ed for 3,230 yards out of Colorado’s total of 3,536 for the season. This helped rank them 16th in of ing offense. It seems EA is taking this into despite the team’s overall performance.

In the season, Colorado will also have former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur backing them up. Shurmur has worked with a variety of professional teams over the last 25 years and can likely make some strides to get Colorado’s entire offense working to their QB. It will be interesting to see what Sanders can accomplish if he has a strong offense backing him up.

7 Transfers Have Made Miami A Serious Threat

Although Miami had a worse season than Clemson last year, they did score higher in of some offensive metrics. They had a decent ing game and their points per game (PPG) was better than a few other teams in College Football 25’s Top 10 ranked schools. Depending on how far back EA’s “years worth of game film” spans, they could also be ing for the solid performance Miami had back in the 2021-22 season. Of course, EA may also be looking to the future to determine Miami’s threat level.

Ahead of the 2024-25 season, Miami acquired QB Cameron Ward from the Washington State Cougars, who threw for 3,735 yards last season. Perhaps even more importantly, their rush game will likely be getting a well-needed boost from incoming TB Damien Martinez, formerly of Oregon State. ing for these new transfers could certainly make Miami’s future look a little brighter and earn them their high overall score.

6 Time Will Tell If LSU Keeps Its Top 10 Spot With A New QB

This makes it pretty clear why EA would choose to give LSU a high overall score. However, a major change for LSU’s next season may impact their numbers depending on how things go.

A huge contributing factor to LSU’s offensive capabilities last season was quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels won the Heisman Trophy and helped LSU most of the way toward their 4406 ing yards in the last season. Now that Daniels is no longer at LSU, it will be interesting to see if they can put up the same numbers for next year. While their rush game was also strong, it’s hard not to imagine that their new QB is feeling a lot of pressure to live up to his predecessor.

Similar to Miami, Ohio State’s ranking in College Football 25 may be more speculative than reflective.

Ohio State will likely get a boost to their somewhat lackluster rushing game thanks to Quinshon Judkins, who previously played for Ole Miss. Will Howard, a QB from Kansas, is also transferring to Ohio State which will hopefully help step up their offensive game. With Ohio State having the top-ranked defense in College Football 25, they could prove to be a difficult team to play against if they can continue to bring their offense up to speed.

4 Texas’ New Receivers Are Expected To Perform

While Texas is losing some of its important offensive players, there is hope that their new prospects can perform just as well.

Texas is gaining Silas Bolden from Oregon State and Matthew Golden from University of Houston as new wide receivers. While their numbers don’t quite reach the combined heights of departing receivers Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell from last season, they aren’t far off. While LSU has slipped in the rankings according to College Football 25’s projections, possibly due to its player turnover, Oregon has managed to keep its second-place spot.

The cornerstone of Oregon’s strong offense was its ing game, largely thanks to its strong wide receivers. The team will still have Gary Bryant, Jr., Traeshon Holden, and Tez Johnson next year. If these players continue to put up the same type of yardage that they did in the 2023-24 season, Oregon will likely continue to have one of the strongest offenses in college football.
